Dozens arrested running drug markets on South, West sides

Chicago police officials said today that they have arrested 39 people and confiscated several guns, drugs and vehicles as they "dismantled" drug operations that accounted for millions of dollars in yearly drug sales on the South and West sides.
Police made the announcement today while touting the results of several narcotics division investigations that targeted operations in the Wentworth and the Chicago Lawn districts on the South Side and in the Grand Central district on the city's west side.
The latest police actions are continuation of arrests that took place last week. Nearly 90 people have been arrested as part of the combined operations.
"The relationship between gangs, drugs, and violence is longstanding," said Chicago Police Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy. "Only a collaborative, comprehensive, and unrelenting approach will diminish it, as we are seeing in our strategies to target drug markets devastating communities affected by gang violence."
In the Wentworth district, officers "dismantled" a drug operation that yearly sold more than $2.3 million worth of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis. Police targeted the area along 43rd Street between Michigan and Calumet avenues which were frequented by street gangs.
Using surveillance and covert narcotics purchases, police targeted 23 people in the enterprise and arrested 20 for drug-related offenses

Man found guilty of 2009 killing of wife, ex-girlfriend and father

A South Side man has been found guilty of murder in a rampage that left his wife and former girlfriend dead and eventually claimed the life of his father.
James Amison was accused of flying into a rage on Dec. 11 and 12, 2009, when he strangled his ex-wife, Takisha Smith, in Steger, shot his father, James Johnson, in Maywood and fatally shot a former girlfriend, Stephanie Reed, in Chicago.
Amison’s father died a little more than a year later.
A Cook County Criminal Court jury found Amison guilty Thursday night.
A Will County murder case involving his wife was transferred and became part of the Cook County case in which he was accused of killing his father and former girlfriend.
Prosecutors said at the time that Amison was convinced that his wife was having an affair with his father. Amison, now 40, was arrested a short time later after he tried to rob a South Side strip club, only to be shot by a patron.
In his trial this week, defense attorneys tried to paint Amison as delusional, citing a videotaped statement to police in which he said he was convinced his father was having an affair with his wife and that family members had taken life insurance policies out on him and were trying to have him killed.
Amison was found mentally fit for trial last year.

Actin all ghetto Flash mob/wilding asses attack Lifeguard in University Village neighborhood pool 1 arrested

A judge set bail today at $150,000 for a man accused of beating up a 17-year-old lifeguard at a public pool during a melee yesterday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.
Judge James Brown set the bail for Verdell Parker, 21, of the 7600 block of South Paulina Street, during today’s noontime bond hearing in Cook County Criminal Court.
Police said Parker was charged with felony aggravated battery to a government employee and violation of probation for the beating of a 17-year-old boy at Fosco Park public pool at 1312 S. Racine Ave. on Thursday afternoon.
Prosecutors said Parker was one of a large group of males who began acting disorderly and disobeying pool rules.
Two lifeguards and a lifeguard supervisor repeatedly asked them to leave because they were breaking the rules, but when they finally exited the pool, someone yelled: “Rush the guards!’’.
One of the males in the group grabbed the victim and tried to throw him into the pool but he resisted and the two struggled and fell to the ground.
When the two got up, a group of nine or 10 males including Parker and two or three others surrounded the victim and pummeled him with their fists multiples times causing him to suffer a broken nose, two loose teeth, a bloody swollen lacerated lip, and multiple bruises to the face.
The supervisor was able to grab the victim and pull him into the lifeguard office and lock the door. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and released a few hours after he was treated.
The suspects fled and were gone by the time police got there, but the victim and witnesses gave their descriptions to police.
Parker was seen minutes after the incident and police arrested him as 5:20 p.m.
Parker was identified in a physical lineup by the victim, the other lifeguard and their supervisor,

Young has been in custody since the shooting, and was initially charged only with unlawful use of a weapon.

He is accused of fatally shooting the victim, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 44-year-old Olufeimi Abdulai, at 12:24 p.m. Jan. 6 in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street.
Abdulai, of the 8200 block of Keeler Avenue in Skokie, died later that day at 2:32 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Woman charged with husband's beating death with baseball bat

A woman who hit her husband in the head with a baseball bat twice during a drunken fight has been charged with his murder.
Alice Tatum-Price, 51, is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of her husband, James Tatum, who died June 22, more than a month after the May 12 fight in the couple’s Austin neighborhood home. Tatum-Price was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail in a hearing today before Cook County Criminal Court Judge Donald Panarese.
Tatum, 51, of the 5400 block of West Cortez Street, was declared dead just before 1 a.m. on June 22.
Tatum was drinking with his wife on May 12 when the two started arguing. Tatum-Price, who was staying in Milwaukee, had a restraining order against Tatum and told police she shouldn’t have come to Chicago.
The two started arguing after having a couple of drinks. At 10:41 p.m. on May 11, Tatum-Price called police because the couple were arguing and she “wanted to get away from her husband,” according to a court document. Tatum-Price called 911 again and tried to cancel the call, even though Tatum was angry with her and chasing her around the house.
When Tatum sat down on a couch, Tatum-Price grabbed a wooden baseball bat from a corner of the rooom and said “come here you motherfucker,”. She hit him in the head twice.
After hitting him, she put a pillow under his head and called 911. An ambulance took Tatum to Mount Sinai Hospital before police arrived and Tatum-Price told police what happened.
Tatum had bruises on his forearm from trying to defend himself from the bat, and Tatum-Price had no visible injuries except for a sprained finger.
Investigators weren’t able to interview Tatum, but Tatum-Price was charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon the day after the fight. She was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bail at that time.
The medical examiner’s office determined Tatum died from cerebral injuries from blunt head trauma in a homicide, consistent with being hit in the head with a baseball bat.

Man arrested for imperonating Police after stopping motorist

A man was charged with impersonating a police officer after real cops saw him stop a motorist, then played along with the man's ruse until back-up could arrive.
Judge James Brown set bail for Thomas Considine at $250,000 today during a bond hearing. Considine, of the 3900 block of West 66th Place, was charged with armed robbery and false personation of a peace officer.
“You CPD?" Considine, 20, asked the officers as he sat in a white Buick Lucerne fitted with blue and red flashing lights in the windshield around 3 a.m. Thursday in the West Lawn neighborhood,.
He was parked behind a car he had just stopped in the 5800 block of South Lawndale Ave.
"I’m with the sheriff’s department CIU – we’re good, thanks,’’ Considine said. He was wearing a black vest, a gunbelt with handcuffs, and he had an expandable baton and a police badge. He also had what appeared to be a pistol tucked in his waistband.
But when the officers ran the plate of his car, they found it registered to his home address, not to the sheriff's department.
While waiting for back-up, the officers kept up the ruse and ordered the man stopped by Considine to get out of the car and place his hands on the roof.
When other beat cars arrived, officers placed the man into handcuffs and escorted him away from Considine.
Then an officer asked Considine for his ID and removed “a black semiautomatic-looking BB gun’’ from Considine’s waistband and placed him into custody,

Gov. Pat Quinn helps the gangs bottom line by raising cigarrette tax by a dollar a pack

With state cigarette taxes to more than double Sunday, experts say some smokers might quit, some will shop elsewhere and some will just pay the extra fee.
Earlier this month Gov. Pat Quinn signed a package of bills into law that will slash health care coverage for the poor and hike cigarette taxes by $1-a-pack to help pay for the struggling Medicaid program.Quinn had warned that without action the health care program would collapse under a mountain of debt. The $1-a-pack increase will more than double Illinois' cigarette tax, which has stood at 98 cents for years.Quinn argues the measure will encourage people to stop smoking or to never start, while opponents say it will simply force smokers to buy cigarettes across state lines.
Quinn failed to mention that the increase in the price of a pack of cigarettes plays right right into the hands of Chicago's gangs. The gangs who control the loose cigarette sales. The gang members you'll see calling to you "loosies" at the CTA stations, bus stops and gas stations. At a dollar a cigarette we're sure the gangs pull in big money. Again it's the DEMOCRAT- GANG connect and Chicago's news media is too corrupt or stupid to recognize it.

Busts close 3 drug markets on South, West sides and land 49 in jail

Forty-nine people are facing charges after three separate investigations on the West and South sides uncovered cash, drugs and in one instance, a weapon used in an assault against a police officer.
The multiple investigations targeted drug markets in the city’s Wentworth, Englewood and Harrison Districts.
On the West Side, investigators identified 30 wanted individuals linked to six different street gangs in the area of Keeler to Kildare avenues and Monroe to Adams streets.
While executing search warrants, police found heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana along with four firearms, including one that was linked to recent West Side shootings.
In one instance, officers attempted to stop a man on the 200 block of South Kildare Avenue to determine his identity.
But when officers approached the man, later identified as Pierre Blakney, 21, he aimed a pistol at police and fled on foot.
Blakney of the 3700 block of West Flournoy Street, was charged with aggravated assault to a police officer, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and manufacture and delivery of heroin within 1,000 feet of a school or church.
A total of 25 people were charged with drug-related offense in that investigation.
On the South Side, investigators foiled a drug market estimated to net more than $1.1 million annually in drug sales in the Wentworth District.
The six-month investigation targeted the Gangster Disciple street gang in the area of 47th Street from Michigan to Calumet avenues, police said. Twelve of 14 wanted members involved in drug sales in that area were arrested and face drug-related charges.
In the Englewood District, detectives targeted a drug market in the area of the 5600 to 5800 blocks of South Morgan Avenue and Wood Street. Twelve of 14 wanted suspects were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses in that sting

City officials and the media might be the only two places left where people still deny Chicago is under assault from more than 50 episodes of black mobs attacking, beating, robbing and vandalizing over the last three years in and around downtown. Many of them are on display at YouTube.
