2 hurt, at least 19 arrested as ghetto flash mob/wilding get off to an early start at Ford City Mall
Two people suffered minor injuries and police arrested at least 16 people
during a disturbance involving crowds of young people tonight at Ford City Mall
on the Southwest Side.
At about 4:45 p.m., a large group of disruptive teens ran yelling through the mall, which is located at 7601 S. Cicero Ave.
Officials closed the mall minutes later, but the chaotic scene continued outside, where police found between 100 and 200 people damaging vehicles in the shopping center's parking lot.
Two people were taken to hospitals.
A CTA bus driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital.
A “kid’’ was also hurt, and that person was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, also in good condition.
About 50 police squad cars assigned to multiple South Side districts, including Chicago Lawn, Englewood and Deering, and a helicopter responded to the scene.
Traffic came to a standstill as teenagers jumped on cars, both parked and moving. Many of those involved ignored orders to disperse, and police arrested 16 people, many of them juveniles.
Earlier in the afternoon, members of the teen band Mindless Behavior had appeared at the mall food court from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to promote their new release, "All Around the World,"
The band's autograph signing drew approximately 1,000 parents and children, primarily mothers and girls between the ages of 6 and 13.
About 45 minutes after the band left, the chaos began

Man convicted of killing Robeson basketball star
A Cook County jury tonight convicted a man in the slaying of a high school
basketball player during a melee outside a movie theater on Chicago's Southwest
Side more than six years ago.
Eddie Fenton, 27, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the April 2006 shooting death of 17 year old Willie Williams III, a star on the Robeson High School basketball team and member of the Jesse White Tumblers.
The jury deliberated for about three hours after a four-day trial, according to a court clerk in Judge Kenneth Wadas' courtroom.
Prosecutors said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Ford City shopping center after a late showing of the movie "ATL." Two groups of friends had exchanged words in the raucous theater, and the altercation grew physical after the show.
Williams was walking toward an area where one of his friends was fighting when Fenton approached from behind, pulled out a revolver and shot him in the head

18 and 23 year olds shot in Ford City
Two men, 18 and 23,were shot about 10:30 p.m., police said. The younger man
was shot in the abdomen and the older man was shot in the right hip, police
said. They drove to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and are in
serious condition.
The pair told police they were in a car traveling north on the 7100 block of South Cicero Avenue when another car drove up and someone inside opened fire about 10:30 p.m. But nobody in that area called police to report the sound of gunfire and police suspect the address provided by the men may be bogus
