52-year-old man shot during robbery in South Deering
At about 8:20 p.m. Friday, a 52-year-old man was shot during an apparent robbery in the 2600 block of East 106th Street in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South SideUrsitti. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the back. He was listed in serious condition

Man gets 50 years in 2009 road rage murder
A Cook County judge has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison in the 2009 road
rage shooting death of a Burbank man.
Mikel Pernell, 34, was found guilty in September of killing George Cruz, 30, on Sept. 18, 2009, after Cruz accidentally cut him off in traffic near 105th Street and Hoxie Avenue, and was sentenced Wednesday by Cook County Criminal Court Judge Carol Howard.
A warrant was issued for his arrest two months after the slaying, and Pernell was arrested a day later on the street in the 6400 block of South Seeley Avenue.
Cruz was headed north on Torrence Avenue when he changed lanes to turn left onto 105 th Street, accidentally cutting off Pernell about 11 a.m. Sept. 18, 2009.
Pernell drove up next to the passenger side of Cruz’s car, while yelling at him. Cruz apologized and told Pernell about trying to turn onto 105 th Street, and Pernell then drove off and parked at 105th and Hoxie.
Cruz drove up and stopped near Pernell, who then pointed a gun out his car window and shot Cruz through his windshield, hitting him in the left eye.
Cruz was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. that morning.

48-year-old man shot on the Mag Mile
The 48-year-old man was in his vehicle when he was shot in the back in the
100 block of East Superior Street about 11 p.m.The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition had stabilized
Police said the Frisco, Texas man, a guest in a hotel in the 200 block East Walton Street, told officers he was driving a rented 2014 Jeep Patriot at Superior Street and Michigan Avenue when he heard his driver’s side rear window shatter. At first, he thought someone knocked out his window and he fled, going northbound on Michigan Avenue.
The hotel valet parked the vehicle and once he got into his room, he found his t-shirt was “wet and full of blood’’ and realized he was shot on the left side of his chest and his left rear shoulder. He notified the front desk clerk and police and an ambulance came to the hotel.

About 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of East 107th Street in the Trumbull
Park neighborhood on the Far South Side, a 49-year-old man was shot in the leg
during an armed robbery attempt, police said. The victim was taken to Advocate
Trinity Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

Teen charged with murder in death of 78-year-old man
A teenager charged with robbing a 78-year-old man who died a month after the 2012
attack has now been charged with murder.
Dalvin Rayford, 19, originally was charged with the armed robbery of J.W. Moore, who lived near 102nd Street and Bensley Avenue, after Moore was attacked about 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2012. .
Moore was doing well just after the attack, but Moore later was admitted to hospice care. After his death, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined he died from complications from a broken hip suffered in the robbery.
The victim had stepped out for a walk Dec. 10 and was thrown to the ground and robbed at gunpoint in the South Deering neighborhood.
Moore was standing outside in his yard when Rayford went up to him with a handgun and demanded his money. Rayford knocked Moore to the ground on his back.
Rayford kept demanding money and went through Moore’s pockets, taking his keys, when a neighbor saw Rayford standing over more with the gun. The neighbor started to yell for help and also called police, and Rayford ran away.
Police officers in the area saw Rayford running down the street, then behind a house, where officers caught up with him and arrested him.
Officers searching the area for evidence found two black hooded sweatshirts, two black gloves, and a loaded gun hidden in tall weeds in a back yard in the 10200 block of South Oglesby Avenue.
Moore and and the neighbor identified Rayford when police brought him back to the scene of the robbery, and when Rayford was taken to the South Chicago Police District Station, he admitted to robbing Moore with the gun.

19-year-old man shot dead in South Deering
A 19-year-old man was killed and a 20-year-old man wounded in a drive-by attack in
the South Deering neighborhood overnight
The fatal shooting happened about 10:53 p.m. in the 10200 block of South Oglesby Avenue. Someone in a vehicle pulled up to a sidewalk where the 19-year-old and 20-year-old were standing and started shooting.
The younger of the two, Antonio Calhoun, of the 1400 block of East 68th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. The older man with him was shot in the leg and is in good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital

A 17-year-old boy was shot at 38th Street and Wentworth Avenue in the Wentworth
Gardens neighborhood near U.S. Cellular Field two blocks
north. He was hit once in the shoulder and taken to Stroger hospital. Police
said the boy collapsed on a basketball court after being shot about 10 p.m.
24-year-old man shot in Lawndale
At about 11:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Lawndale
neighborhood on the West Side. Someone fired toward him from a gangway in the
1900 block of South Harding Avenue and the man was taken to Mount Sinai
Hospital, where he's in stable condition.

Two people were shot about 1 a.m. in the 5800 block of West Irving Park Road in
the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 21-year-old was shot in
the leg and a 22-year-old was grazed in the abdomen

A 24-year-old man was shot about 1 a.m. in the 7400 block of North Rogers Avenue
in the Rogers Park neighborhood. He ran to a nearby CTA station where police

A gunman shot a 29-year-old man in the wrist and grazed a 22-year-old woman in the forehead as the pair sat in a car after leaving a party about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. They were shot in the 3100 block of West Fillmore Street in the Lawndale neighborhood and drove to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. Both are in good condition

Near 71st and Wood streets in the Englewood neighborhood about 2:30 a.m., an 18-year-old woman walking with her aunt was shot in the knee. They heard shots and felt pain. She's in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Someone shot from one car into another next to a gas station in the 5700 block of Fullerton Avenue in the Belmont Central neighborhood about 12:50 a.m. A 30-year-old man was shot in the knee about a block west of Central Avenue as he sat in one of the cars; he was driven from there to Kilpatrick Avenue and Fullerton Avenue, where police and an ambulance found him. He was in the back yard with others when the shooter approached on foot and opened fire from the alley. He fled south down the alley. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and his condition stabilized
22-year-old man shot in Garfield Park
A 22-year-old man walked into Rush Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg about 1:50 a.m. He told police he had been shot in the 200 block of South Central Park Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. He was later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and his condition was stabilized

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood about 11:20 p.m. He was walking with about a group when someone inside a passing dark car started shooting, Greer said. The boy was hit in the chest and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

A 17-year-old boy was shot after getting into an argument with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend in the Englewood neighborhood. The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Green Street. The boy, who was shot in the groin, was taken to Christ hospital in serious condition.

Police pulled over a speeding car on Garfield Boulevard at Racine Avenue in Englewood and found a 22-year-old man inside who had been shot in the arm. A 24-year-old man drove to a gas station at 47th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive after someone shot him in the hand in the 4800 block of South Prairie Avenue about 12:55 a.m. The man was taken from the gas station to Stroger hospital.
20-year-old man shot in Bronzeville during robbery
Someone dropped a 20-year-old man off at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound about 12:10 a.m. Two men approached the man in the 4000 block of South Prairie Avenue, demanded money and started beating him. The man tried to flee and was shot once in the leg.

Man robbed, dragged down street hanging from car
An East Side man was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail Sunday after he and another man robbed a man and dragged him down the street with his legs hanging out of their car .
Andrew J. Garcia, 18, of the 10900 block of South Green Bay Avenue, faces robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery charges in connection with Saturday’s incident.
The 18-year-old victim was walking in the 10600 block of South Calhoun Avenue in South Deering Saturday when Garcia and an unknown man pulled up next to him in a car
Garcia exited the car, pulled out a revolver and tried to rob the victim.
The victim refused and Garcia punched him in the face and pistol-whipped him in the head.
Garcia and the car’s driver then took $80 from the victim and got back into the car.
The victim came after them and tried to reach into the driver’s side window for his money.
The other robber then drove off down the street, holding the victim by his shirt and dragging him along as Garcia again struck the victim in the head with the gun.
The victim told police he recognized Garcia from high school and subsequently identified him in a lineup.
The victim suffered head abrasions, road rash and required staples and stitches to treat his injuries

Man charged in slaying of Far South Side teen
A U.S. postal worker and another man followed a 16-year-old boy around a Chicago Housing Authority complex before the second man shot the teen to death.
On July 14, Aries Sanders, 24, the postal worker, and the other man arrived at the Trumbull Park Homes in the South Shore neighborhood by car. Sanders was carrying a gun case as he and another individual walked up a set of stairs in the complex.
The other man, who investigators believe wsa the shooter, is in custody but has not yet been charged, Chicago police said. Sanders, of the 6400 block of South Stony Island Avenue, was charged with murder and held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
The video showed Sanders and the other man following Joseph Brewer, of the 10600 block of South Oglesby Avenue.
The male with Sanders then shot Brewer several times, eventually killing him.
The man with Sanders was observed on video firing at Brewer several times. The victim fell, after suffering 8 gunshot wounds.
Sanders and the other man, who was seen on video carrying an uncovered pistol in his hand, fled.
According to police records, Sanders works at the United States Post Office at 1300 Northwest Hwy. in Palatine.
On July 14, Aries Sanders, 24, the postal worker, and the other man arrived at the Trumbull Park Homes in the South Shore neighborhood by car. Sanders was carrying a gun case as he and another individual walked up a set of stairs in the complex.
The other man, who investigators believe wsa the shooter, is in custody but has not yet been charged, Chicago police said. Sanders, of the 6400 block of South Stony Island Avenue, was charged with murder and held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
The video showed Sanders and the other man following Joseph Brewer, of the 10600 block of South Oglesby Avenue.
The male with Sanders then shot Brewer several times, eventually killing him.
The man with Sanders was observed on video firing at Brewer several times. The victim fell, after suffering 8 gunshot wounds.
Sanders and the other man, who was seen on video carrying an uncovered pistol in his hand, fled.

Chicago Zimmerman strikes again as 16 year old teenager shot dead in South Deering second man also shot
In the city's South Deering community on the Far South Side, someone shot a 16 year old teenager to death at 2:50 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Oglesby Avenue
The Cook County medical examiner's office said the victim was 16 and was declared dead at Northwestern at 3:39 p.m.
A 28-year-old man was found in the back seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the hand, according to police. He was treated and released from Advocate Trinity Hospital.

A 30-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the South Deering neighborhood this evening.The man was shot at about 7 p.m. on the 2500 block of East 104th Street.
The man was shot in the left side of his body and was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center

About 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of East 47th Street in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side, a 24-year-old man was shot in the elbow

26-year-old woman and her 1 year old child shot in Englewood
A 26-year-old woman and her toddler son were shot on the South Side this evening.The shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. on the 1700 block of West 73rd Street.
Witnesses said three gunmen stepped out of a van and started shootingshot.
The woman had been sitting in the passenger's seat of a minivan with her son on her lap.
Three other women were in the parked vehicle, and four other children were sitting inside or nearby.
A family friend drove both to Holy Cross Hospital, and the toddler was later taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Both their conditions were stabilized

A male was wounded late this morning in a shooting in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood.
That shooting happened about 11:22 a.m. on the 1300 block of West 112th Street. The male was inside a car when another vehicle pulled up and someone from inside fired shots.

34-year-old man shot in South Deering
At about 1:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man was shot in the foot in a club in the 10700 block of South Torrence Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood. He's in good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital

8 school buses stolen, shredded into big pile of scrap
Eight school buses were stolen from the Far South Side overnight and driven
to a salvage yard, where they were cut apart and shredded into a two-story pile
of scrap.
Three people were taken into custody.
The 40-foot-long buses, capable of seating 75 people, were stolen sometime overnight from the bus company's yard in the 10000 block of South Torrence Avenue and were not discovered missing until this morning.
The buses were all equipped with GPS tracking devices, and police were able to track "their entire movement" to the scrap yard on the West Side.
When officers arrived, several people who apparently worked in the scrap yard ran into a building. Officers initially apprehended one person and later took two others into custody.
Police were searching for the owner of the yard.
An employee said the bus yard had been closed around 7 p.m. Thursday. When workers arrived at 5 a.m. today, they discovered a gate open and a snapped lock.

Charges in robbery of 78-year-old Far South Side man
Eighteen-year-old Dalvin Rayford, of the 2500 block of East 72nd Place, was charged with armed robbery in the attack.
The victim stepped out for a walk yesterday afternoon about 2:45 p.m. near 102nd Street and Bensley Avenue when the assailant, who police identified as Rayford, threw him to the ground while pointing a gun at his face and demanded money.
Rayford went through the 78-year-old’s pockets and took an unknown amount of cash and a set of keys before fleeing into an alley where police spotted him shortly afterward.
Rayford was arrested at 3:08 p.m. in the 10200 block of South Yates Boulevard, just a block west of where the robbery took place.
Officers searching the area for evidence found two black hooded sweatshirts, two black gloves, and a loaded gun hidden in tall weeds in a back yard in the 10200 block of South Oglesby Avenue

A 53-year-old man was shot in the arm after he startled three people who had just

Police said two women and a man broke into a 40-year-old man's apartment near 109th Street and Torrence Avenue about 12:45 a.m. Friday and hit him with a handgun.
The 53-year-old man, a downstairs neighbor, heard the commotion and opened his door, surprising the attackers as they were leaving, police said. One of them shot him in the arm.

School bus reported hit by gunfire on Far South Side
A bus transporting students to a Far South Side parochial school was believed to
have been hit by gunfire this morning as the vehicle was picking up children in
the South Deering neighborhood.
Neither the driver nor any of the students on the bus at the time were injured.
Police were called to Our Lady of Guadalupe School, 9050 S. Burley Ave., about 7:50 a.m., following a report of criminal damage to a bus there. Police found that a gunshot appears to have entered one of the windows of the bus, traveled through a seat, then exited another window, in the incident in the 10600 block of South Calhoun Avenue.

17-year-old boy shot in South Deering
Earlier a 17-year-old boy was wounded in the arm in the 10600 block
of South Yates Boulevard at about 5:50 p.m.. The teen told police
he heard a gunshot and felt pain.
