Driver questioned after man dies in South Side crash

A 17-year-old boy was being questioned by police after a passenger in a vehicle he was driving died early today following a South Chicago neighborhood crash.
Darius Dudley, 18, was pronounced dead at 6:24 a.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital after an incident in the 8100 block of South South Chicago Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Dudley lived in the 7700 block of South Greenview Avenue.
A 17-year-old boy was in police custody following the crash about 4:30 a.m. on South Chicago Avenue

Store robber shot dead in South Chicago

A man trying to rob a South Side cell phone store Tuesday died after an exchange of gunfire with the store clerk as another man inside broke his ankle trying to escape the shootout.
Police say 25-year-old Demarcus Brandon tried to rob the store, in the 1700 block of East 87th Street, but was shot dead by the clerk about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found a handgun they believed to be his.
Police said there was an exchange of gunfire between Brandon and the clerk, though it’s not clear who shot first.
Brandon was paroled from the Shawnee Correctional Center this summer, where he had been serving concurrent 3-year and 13-year sentences.
The 13-year sentence stemmed from an incident in Chicago in which Brandon was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, gun possession, aggravated fleeing from police, and having either a rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches or shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches.
That case, and the one that ended with a 3-year sentence, both ended in plea deals. He was credited for about 20 months time served and admitted to IDOC custody in September 2008.
His projected parole discharge date was in July of 2016.

18-year-old man shot in South Chicago


An  18-year-old man was shot in the chest in the South Chicago neighborhood Monday night.Someone shot him in the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue about 6:30 p.m..
He suffered multiple wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition

The non-violent breed pitbulls kills another child, but at least their non-violent

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the death of the child, who was attacked Saturday afternoon while at her grandfather's home in the 300 block of East 91st Street in the South Chicago neighborhood. Chicago Police's investigation into the girl's death is continuing and no arrests or charges have been filed.
Police contacted the city's Department of Animal Care and Control, who took custody of two dogs, one named "Brownie" and another named "General Chico"
The family said both dogs were pit bulls, an adult female dog and her puppy.

Girl, 2, dies from dog attack

A 2-year-old girl died after she was attacked by a dog Saturday afternoon at her grandfather's home in the South Chicago neighborhood and her death was ruled a homicide.
Jah'niyah White was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. at Jackson Park Hospital after becoming ill in the 3300 block of East 91st Street.
An autopsy today determined that she died from multiple injuries she sustained in a dog attack and said a contributing factor was neglect and her death was ruled a homicide.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the grandfather for allegations of abuse pertaining to the child's death family.
Chicago Police detectives were conducting a death investigation after they were called to the 91st Street address about 2:45 p.m. Saturday to assist Fire Department personnel there.

23-year-old man shot in South Chicago

About 11 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue in the city's South Chicago neighborhood, a 23-year-old man was shot in both arms and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition had stabilized.
The victim was not cooperating with Area South investigators

20-year-old woman in South Chicago

About 5 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the head as she drove through an alley the 2600 block of East 83rd Street. The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition had been stabilized. She told police she heard the gunshots but could not see who was shooting

About 12:45 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. He was walking with a group near 87th Street and Exchange Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood when someone in a silver minivan fired toward the group, hitting the man. He's in stable condition

18-year-old man shot dead in South Chicago

An 18-year-old man was killed in the South Chicago neighborhood Saturday night
Police said the fatal shooting happened just after 11 p.m., in a first-floor hallway in the 2700 block of East 80th Street. Someone in the building called police after hearing three or four gunshots, and when the caller ventured into the hallway, the 18-year-old was lying on the ground, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.
The man was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 11:50 p.moffice. He was identified as Tyshon Anderson, of the 8000 block of South Marquette Avenue.

17-year-old boy shot in South Chicago


A 17-year-old boy shot in the hand was driven to South Shore Hospital. The boy and a friend told police the shooting happened at the intersection of East 79th Street and South Marquette Avenue

South Chicago neighborhood woman dead following fire

A 76-year-old woman died early this morning following a fire on the South Side.
Janice Harley, of the 8200 block of South Oglesby Avenue, was pronounced dead at 12:27 a.m. at South Shore Hospital.
Firefighters burst into the home in the city's South Chicago neighborhood and found the woman suffering from smoke inhalation.
She was initially taken in “extremely critical” condition to the hospital.
No other injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished

2 shot in Southeast Side restaurant

A man and woman were shot inside a fast-food restaurant in the South Chicago neighborhood this evening.
The shooting took place at 7:17 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Commercial Avenue.
Wounded were a 25-year-old woman, shot in the head and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, and a 19-year-old man who was shot in the chest his condition had been stabilized. .
The two were shot inside a JJ Fish and Chicken restaurant, 8800 S. Commercial Avenue. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center

19-year-old man shot in South Chicago

A 19-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood Thursday night.
About 9:30 p.m., the man was walking in the 8300 block of South Marquette Avenue when someone fired shots from inside a light-colored minivan.
The man was struck in the lower back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

27-year-old man dies after being shot in August

A 27-year-old man died today after being shot in the South Chicago neighborhood on August 14.
Lorenzo Feliciano was pronounced dead today at 2:42 p.m. at Kindred North Hospital.
Feliciano was shot on the 8500 block of South Oglesby Avenue which is the same block where he lived.
Feliciano was shot about 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 14. He had been in critical condition after being shot in the chest and neck.

22-year-old man shot in Fuller Park
A 22-year-old man was shot in the foot Tuesday night in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side.  The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Wentworth Avenue. 
He walked into Provident Hospital of Cook County with the wound.
41-year-old man shot in South Chicago
About 1:25 a.m., someone in a gray sedan opened fire in the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue.
A 41-year-old man sitting in a parked vehicle was struck in the right side and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition

25-year-old man shot in Park Manor
Someone in a sedan fired shots in the 7500 block of South Michigan Avenue, striking a 25-year-old man standing nearby.
The man was hit twice in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

18-year-old man and 15-year-old boy shot in Little Village
A  man and a teenage boy were shot in the Little Village neighborhood this evening.
The attack took place in the 4100 block of West 24th Place about 6:30 p.m.
One victim, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the chest and both legs, while a 15-year-old boy was shot in one leg. Both were being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions had been stabilized.
The two walked into Mount Sinai for treatment. They told responding officers they had been on the street when they heard gunshots and felt pain
20-year-old woman shot in Avalon Park
A 20-year-old woman was shot in a house near Avalon Park this evening. The shooting occurred in the 7500 block of St. Lawrence Avenue at about 8:30 p.m.
The woman was shot in the hand and a bullet grazed her face, but did not hit her.
The woman was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in good condition
2 men shot in South Chicago
Two men were shot and wounded in a drive-by attack in the South Chicago neighborhood this morning.
A 19-year-old man was wounded in the right shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment, while a 20-year-old suffered a graze wound to the head in the attack in the 8200 block of South Baltimore Avenue.
The attack took place as the two were standing outside about 10:20 a.m., Estrada said. Someone in a maroon pickup truck drove past and opened fire, hitting the two.
The younger man's condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center, while the older man did not require hospitalization.
16, 18, 21, 22 year old shot in Washington Park
An incident left four young men wounded on a city Safe Passage route. 
The four were shot in the 6100 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood about 11:10 p.m.
Someone inside a dark car fired shots toward a group standing on a sidewalk, hitting the four. A 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, both in stable condition. A 21-year-old was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital & Healthcare Center, also in good condition. 
The most seriously wounded, a 22-year-old man, was shot in the left calf and upper back and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He's in critical condition.
16-year-old boy in shot in South Shore
An attack wounded a 16-year-old boy in the nearby South Shore neighborhood. Someone shot the boy and ditched a small revolver with a taped handle in a nearby empty lot. The boy was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with wounds to his shoulder and buttocks.
19-year-old man shot in South Shore
At about 3 a.m. a 19-year-old man sitting in the front seat of a van was shot in the left buttocks. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center from the 8400 block of South Burnham Avenue, where he had been shot.
19-year-old man shot in Garfield Park
At 12:30 a.m. near Cicero Avenue and Monroe Street in the city's West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, a 19-year-old man was shot in the foot, police said. He was in good condition

Woman shot in South Chicago
At about 9:30 p.m., a woman in her 20s arrived at Advocate Trinity Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Her condition was stabilized.
Police believe the shooting happened in the 8100 block of South Exchange Avenue, in the South Side's South Chicago neighborhood.
26-year-old man shot in Garfield Park
At about 11:40 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the 400 block of North Avers Avenue, in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The man was struck in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Boy shot in Englewood
A teenage boy was shot in the foot in the 700 block of West 72nd Street in the Englewood neighborhood about 6:35 p.m. The victim, who told police he had heard shots, then felt pain, but otherwise gave little information about the shooting, was in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
2 men shot in West Elsdon
About 6:52 p.m. in the 3800 block of West 57th Place in the West Elsdon neighborhood, two men in their 20s were shot. One was shot in the stomach, and the other suffered a graze wound to the thigh, and both had had their conditions stabilized at Christ Medical Center.
28-year-old man  shot in Englewood
Just after 7:15 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in the stomach in the 5700 block of South Aberdeen Street in the Englewood neighborhood
21-year-old man  shot in Austin
About 10:31 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in both legs in the 5500 block of West North Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. An attacker came up to the man and shot him, then fled north on Luna Avenue

Man dies after found hanging in South Side lockup

A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead this morning after being found hanging in a cell at the 4th District police lockup on Friday afternoon.
Officers discovered the man hanging shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, inside a cell located at 2255 E. 103rd Place.
The man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead today at 7:44 a..m.
The man was identified as Okoi Ofem of the 8700 block of South Muskegon Avenue,

A  23-year-old man died after being shot in the South Chicago neighborhood this morning.
Chicago Police said the man was shot in the head about 9:10 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Baltimore Avenue.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center where he was originally listed in critical condition but later died

Man charged in slaying of Navy veteran, college student

An 18-year-old man has been charged in the killing of a 33-year-old Chicago State University student on Sunday.
Devon Brunt of the 9600 block of South Merrill has been charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Brunt has been charged with fatally shooting Telkia Burns in the right temple about 3 p.m. and fleeing with his money and house keys.
Brunt had been in custody over the shooting in the 9100 block of South Commercial Avenue. When the robber tried to go through Burns' pockets, Burns fought back and was shot in the head
