When Southall fled, she left behind an identification card. Police found two .25-caliber shell casings at the scene, and later found a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun at Southall’s boyfriend’s home. At the home, investigators also found a red dress that matched that Southall was seen wearing in the surveillance video.
Investigators were able to obtain a warrant for Southall’s arrest, and when she was taken into custody in Rochester, they travelled there to interview her on Sept. 5.
Southall, of the 900 block of South Lawndale Avenue, told detectives that she and Tate had had a previous dispute on Facebook, and that they did not like each other. Prosecutors did not say what started the Facebook feud.
Southall also admitted to fighting Tate at the gas station and to having a handgun the day of the shooting. Multiple eyewitnesses identified Southall as the shooter after she was brought back to Chicago.
Khalila Southall, 30, is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 26 shooting death of Lakeisha Tate, 28, at a gas station at 3357 W. Harrison St. Southall was arrested Sept. 3 in Rochester, Minn., on a murder warrant in the case, after fleeing there soon after the shooting. In a hearing midday today, Southall was ordered held without bail.
Tate, of the 300 block of South Hamlin Avenue, was inside the gas station about 1:40 p.m. Aug. 26 and tried to walk out after buying something when Southall confronted her.
The two began to fight in a doorway to the store, and as they were fighting on the ground, Southall pulled out a handgun and shot Tate. Several witnesses were only feet from the two women when the shooting took place, and it was captured on video from multiple angles.
Tate, who had been shot in the leg and torso, and left lying on the floor of the gas station, was taken to John H.Stroger Jr. Hospital, where she was declared dead at 5 a.m. on Aug. 27.

No bail for man charged with killing at 2012 birthday party
A judge denied bail today for a man accused of fatally shooting a woman outside
his 35th birthday party in the Lawndale neighborhood last year after she refused
advances from someone else at the party
During a hearing today, Judge Israel Desierto denied bail for Tyrese Orr, 36, of the 1800 block of South Springfield Avenue.
Orr is charged with killing Michelle Gregory in the early morning hours of April 14, outside his birthday party in the 3900 block of West 19th Street.
The victim, 22, went out after work with two girlfriends and while she was driving around with them, they received a phone call from two males who invited them to a house party being thrown to celebrate Orr’s birthday.
Gregory and her friends did not know Orr and were introduced to him only as “Money’’.
While at the party, a man she did not know began flirting with her and she became uncomfortable because she had a boyfriend. Gregory and her friends went into a bedroom where Gregory tried to call her father and sister to ask them to pick her up. The man who had been flirting with her overheard her phone conversation.
Gregory and her friends decided to leave and went outside to wait for their work friends to see if they wanted a ride home, but Orr and the male who had been flirting with her came out of the house and went up to them.
Orr told Gregory that he heard she was trying to “ bring some people into his hood’’ and that she was disrespecting him before he pulled a gun and shot her three times.
When she fell to ground and was gasping for air, her friends tried to help her but Orr told them: “If you don’t get out of here you will end up dead like your friend’’.
Her friends fled, called 911 and flagged down a police car as they drove away.
Gregory, of the 7600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, was pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m. that day at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The victim's friends were able to identify Orr as the gunman when they were shown a photo lineup. A warrant for his arrest was issued Oct. 17, and he was arrested on Monday. Witnesses were able to identify him in a physical lineup.
Orr has a 2003 burglary conviction for which he was given 18 months of probation but when he violated the probation he was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections
