From 1929 to 1974, the United States government ran a sterilization program that went around forcibly sterilizing those deemed to be ‘unfit’ to breed. We’re talking ‘break down your door’ sterilizations for anyone deemed mentally disabled, those with a criminal record, women who were raped, and minority groups that politicians said were ‘unfit’ to breed.
During the 45 year sterilization program that affected 60,000 people nationwide, black women were specifically targeted by insane minions on government orders to silence their ability to reproduce. Even the Associated Press writers that the program had direct ties to the eugenics movement of Nazi Germany, specifically when it came to the extremely harsh sterilization protocol of North Carolina. “North Carolina’s program stood out because it ramped up sterilizations after World War II despite associations between eugenics and Nazi Germany.”
