Convicted rapist held on $500K in rape of family friend
A 35-year-old convicted rapist was ordered held on $500,000 bail after being accused
of repeatedly raping a long-time family friend inside an abandoned home where he
was living.
Calvin Viverette, of the 1100 block of West 110th Place, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and attempted first degree murder for the Saturday attack.
About 11 p.m. that day, prosecutors said Viverette was walking a family friend home and asked her to stop at his home, an abandoned building where he said he was living. When the two arrived, the family friend initially stayed on the porch, but Viverette convinced her to come inside and wait for him.
When the two got inside, Viverette pulled her hair and grabbed the victim by her neck and attempted to choke her. He demanded that the victim take off her clothes, but she refused and he began to choke her again. He then struck her in the face and forced her into a back room, where he told her to take off her clothes or he was going to kill her and himself.
In fear for her life, the victim complied and Viverette raped her on a bed that was in the room, said Simonton. Viverette and the victim stood up and then he demanded oral sex. After the victim complied, he pushed her into a glass window, cutting her on the arms and hands. He then forced her to lie down in the shattered glass where he raped her again.
Viverette then forced the victim into the basement, where he attempted to attack her again. He then took her back upstairs where he raped her again.
The victim asked him to call police and an ambulance for her injuries, but he refused. Viverette eventually fell asleep, and about 5 a.m. Sunday, the victim, who was wearing only a T-shirt, ran to a nearby gas station where the police and paramedics were called.
Police went to the abandoned home and found Viverette asleep and naked in the back room. Blood was smeared throughout the home, and blood was also found in the crotch of a pair of pants found on the scene. Some of the victim's personal belongings also were found inside the home.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where she received several stitches for lacerations. She was also treated for vaginal and anal injuries.
Viverette had been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a family friend in 2000 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
