Police issued a community alert this afternoon warning of a pair of robbers
who have targeted cell phone stores on the Near West Side.
The robbers entered the stores brandishing a handgun before demanding money.
One of the robberies happened about 4:18 p.m. March 12 on the 1700 block of
South Ashland Avenue in the Illinois Medical District neighborhood. Another
happened about 12:45 p.m. March 26 on the 2300 block of West Chicago Avenue in
the West Town neighborhood,
The robbers were described as being males between the ages of 24 and 39. They
weigh between 140 and 215 pounds and are between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 3
inches tall,

2 wounded near UIC campus Updated
Two people were taken to a hospital after a shooting near the University of
Illinois at Chicago in the Illinois Medical District neighborhood this
afternoon.
A male of an unknown age was shot in the hip about 12:40 p.m. in the 700 block of South Paulina Street.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said three ambulances were sent to the scene for a shooting and took two people to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
One victim’s condition was serious while the other was not

The FBI agent was not injured
After the shooting, a suspect got into a car and drove off but collided with another car at Harrison Street and Paulina Avenue and ran off.
The suspect was described as a black man, 40-50, weighing 250 pounds, Burton said. He is bald or was wearing a skull cap, and was dressed in a black top, jeans and possibly wore glasses, according to Burton. He may be with a female companion, and one or both may be injured.

Woman hit by truck, killed on West Side
A 73-year-old was struck and killed by a truck in the Illinois Medical District neighborhood this afternoon.
Lydia Tordecilla, of the 1100 block of West Polk Street, was hit by a truck in the 800 block of South Ashland Avenue, four blocks directly west of her home.
The accident happened about 1 p.m.
Tordecilla was declared dead at 2:22 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.
The woman was walking west on Ashland against the light when she was hit by a Crane Carrier truck that was headed north on Ashland.
The driver of the truck tried to stop to avoid the victim, stopped following the accident, and had not been ticketed or charged by about 8:30 p.m.

16-year-old girl in Illinois Medical District area
A 16-year-old girl was grazed in the chest about 7 p.m. Friday near the
intersection of Roosevelt Road and Wood Street in the Illinois Medical District. Someone drove
her to Loretto Hospital on the West Side
