New Year's Day, a 37-year-old man was shot in the 1700 block of North Long Avenue about 8:50 p.m. He was treated at Mount Sinai Hospital for a leg wound.

Man held without bail in slaying of girlfriend's ex-boyfriend
A West Side man has been charged with first degree murder in the Friday morning slaying of a man in the Austin neighborhood.
Shaughnessy Simms, Jr., 31, of the 5900 block of West Midway Park, was arrested Friday morning and charged in connection with the Friday shooting death.
The victim was identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as 36-year-old Jermale Richardson, of the 5100 block of West Ohio Street, in Chicago.
The shooting occurred about 3:50 a.m. Friday on the first floor of a building in the block where Simms lived. At the time, police said the shooting may have been related to a domestic dispute.

17-year-old boy shot in Austin
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg about 1:10 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Lake Street in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. The 17-year-old heard shots and felt pain; no other details were available about the shooting. He was taken in good condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Two charged in meat cleaver, stun gun attack
A Chicago Heights man and a South Austin woman both face attempted murder charges after they allegedly lured a man into the woman's apartment Friday and attacked him with a meat cleaver and a stun gun.
Brian Herman, of the 100 block of West Raye Drive in Chicago Heights, and Shaquietta Brison, of the 0-100 block of South Mayfield Avenue, were also charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection to Friday's incident.
It is not clear why the 19-year-old victim ventured into Brison's apartment Friday, but once he was in there, Herman attacked him with a meat cleaver, screaming, "I'm going to kill your ass.
As Herman hacked at the man, Brison jolted him with a stun gun, Logan said.
Herman was ordered held in lieu of $750,000 Sunday, while Brison's bail was set at $100,000.
The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and treated for cuts to three fingers that were deep enough to require surgery to repair as well as abrasions to the face and fingers.
Police were alerted to the melee when a neighbor called 911.
Herman and Brison are also facing charges for filing a false report.
When police arrived, Herman and Brison told police that the victim had broken into Brison's residence and that Herman had attacked the victim because he choked Brison and was about to sexually assault her.

1 shot 1 shot dead in Austin
Two men were shot about 1:25 a.m. in the vestibule of a building in the 300 block of North Central Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
One of the men, 26, was struck multiple times in the abdomen. The man, identified as Deangelo Shelton, of the 3800 block of West Arthington Street, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 1:30 a.m.
The other man who was shot, a 25-year-old, was also struck in the abdomen. He was listed in guarded condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police said the men had been inside the building when a gunman came inside with other people, opened fire, and fled.

26-year-old man shot dead in Austin
The fatal shooting happened about 1:35 a.m., in the 5600 block of West

18-year-old man shot in Austin
An 18-year-old man was injured when someone in a car next to his fired shots at a
red light in the Austin neighborhood early this morning.
About 3:40 a.m., the man was sitting in a vehicle, stopped at a red light, when a black vehicle pulled up next to it in the 5700 block of West Chicago Avenue on the West Side.
Someone in the black vehicle fired shots, striking the 18-year-old in the leg. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
About 3:40 a.m., the man was sitting in a vehicle, stopped at a red light, when a black vehicle pulled up next to it in the 5700 block of West Chicago Avenue on the West Side.
Someone in the black vehicle fired shots, striking the 18-year-old in the leg. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

Pizza robber tracked down on Facebook
A West Side man accused of stealing a pizza at gunpoint was tracked down by the
phone number he used to order the football-shaped pie.
Jamokae Smith, 22, allegedly held the two people delivering his pizza at gunpoint on Nov. 9 in the 5000 block of West Wabansia Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood. As the delivery workers approached the home, Smith emerged from a nearby gangway and pointed a gun at them while another robber ran off with the pizza and $13 cash.
Assistant State's Attorney Anthony Lucafo said in bond court Saturday that one of the victims searched the number used to order the pizza on Facebook and found Smith's profile with pictures of him. She recognized Smith as one of the robbers. Police arrested him Thursday.
Prosecutors charged Smith, of the 1700 block of North Linder Avenue, with armed robbery and aggravated robbery. The other person involved in the robbery hasn't been charged.

3rd man charged in 2011 killing of CPD officer
A third man has been charged in the 2011 killing of a Chicago police officer.
Alexander Villa, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated battery and armed robbery with a firearm.
Along with Edgardo Colon and Tyrone Clay, both arrested Jan. 7, 2012, he is charged with killing Officer Clifton Lewis on Dec. 29, 2011 during a botched convenience store robbery in the 1200 block of North Austin Avenue.
Lewis, a tactical officer assigned to the Austin District, was working in the store that evening while off-duty, police said. In his eight years with the Chicago Police Department, he won 81 awards, including 70 honorable mentions and four department commendations.
Colon and Clay were each charged with first degree murder of a peace officer and murder while in commission of a forcible felony.

The most recent shooting was about 9:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of West
Washington Boulevard. A 54-year-old was standing in front of a building there
when two armed men approached him and one fired shots. He's in good condition at

43 years old woman shot in Logan Square
Paramedics were called to the 3800 block of West Diversey Avenue in the Logan
Square neighborhood and found a woman shot.
The woman was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. It happened about 8:50 p.m. She is 43 years old
16 and 17 year old boys shot in Englewood
At about 8:15 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood paramedics responded to the
1200 block of West 73rd Street and took two boys to John H. Stroger, Jr.
Hospital in good condition. The two, 16 and 17, were walking down the street
when a car pulled up, someone stepped out and opened fire. The shooter got back
in the car and fled

Paramedics were also called to the 9500 block of South Wentworth Avenue about
4:30 p.m. for a report of a person shot. The victim, a 29-year-old man, was

At 12:42 p.m., police were called to the 7100 block of South Emerald Avenue
in the city's Englewood neighborhood for a report of a person shot at that

Pedestrian killed by SUV, ruled homicide
The death of a 37-year-old woman who was found in an alley on the West Side
was ruled a homicide, according to an autopsy.
LaTasha Amos, of the 4700 block of West Adams Street, was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center.
Amos was found in an alley on the 1100 block of South Mason Avenue.
An autopsy determined that Amos died of multiple injuries after Amos, who was a pedestrian, was struck by an SUV. Officials ruled her death a homicide
