Northwest Side haunted house had some scares it didn't plan for this weekend
when several people were arrested for disorderly conduct, and one for punching
an off-duty police officer in the face, county prosecutors said.
Two people charged with crimes after being arrested at the "Catacombs," a haunted
house at Saint Pascal in Portage Park.
Noelle Siewarine, 19, was charged with aggravated battery, disorderly
conduct, and resisting arrest after she allegedly spit on a police officer's
face while he was arresting her boyfriend for disorderly conduct on Sunday
afternoon. Siewarine
was shouting "[bleep] you police," at officers and other haunted house patrons
while standing in line and making obscene gestures.
Siewarine was released on a $10,000 I-bond with
electronic home monitoring by Judge Adam D. Bourgeois Jr., who said, "You don't
get to go around spitting in the face of police officers and get to just walk
out of jail."
One day earlier, Carlos Rivera, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated
battery to a police officer after he allegedly punched an off-duty officer
working security at the haunted house in the face.
Rivera, of the 3000 block of North Karlov Avenue, was with his wife and
children when the victim, in his capacity as security guard, tried to escort the
wife off the premise for disorderly conduct. Prosecutors said
the wife appeared to be intoxicated and was behaving disruptively.
Rivera punched the man in the face once, according to court records, and then
several times again after the man identified himself as an off-duty officer. The
28-year-old man was treated for a fractured skull and other injuries at the
Resurrection North Hospital.

Park Ridge man held on $275K in Northwest Side crime spree, DUI
A 44-year-old Park Ridge man tried to rob a Northwest Side McDonald's where he had
ordered coffee Thursday morning, then went on to make two more robbery attempts
before he stole cash during a fourth try.
Nick Kanatselis, 44, was arrested in the 5800 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the Belmont-Central neighborhood after officers spotted him in a car connected with robbery attempts in the area and chased him for a mile.
He was ordered held Saturday on $275,000 bail.
Kanatselis, of the 600 block of Northwest Highway in the northwest suburb, faces charges of robbery, attempted robbery, and possession of marijuana, as well as being cited for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, aggravated fleeing, driving on a revoked license, and having no insurance. Kanatselis also has been charged with domestic battery for punching his girlfriend several times in a separate incident Oct. 6.
About 7:30 a.m. Thursday, officers in the 4800 block of West Fullerton Avenue saw a car matching the description of one used in at least three Northwest Side robbery attempts.
The man drove off to try to evade capture, striking several other cars before he jumped from the vehicle in the 5800 block of West Fullerton.
Officers chased him on foot and caught him nearby.
The man, now identified as Kanatselis, is suspected of three robbery attempts, only one successful, at retail stores and an attack on a woman on a sidewalk. The three stores were a McDonald's in the 4000 block of West Belmont Avenue, a CVS in the 3300 block of North Pulaski Road, and a Walgreens in the 4000 block of North Cicero Avenue.
The Park Ridge man's one-man crime spree started about 7 a.m. Thursday when he ordered a coffee at the McDonald's. When a staffer asked if he would like cream or sugar in it, he implied he had a gun in his jacket and said: "Just give me the money".
The staffer was shocked and began to approach her manager, but the assailant walked around the counter, grabbed her by the back of her sweater and again demanded money.
Other workers saw the commotion and began yelling at the man. He let her go and fled without cash.
Only minutes later at 7:12 a.m. he entered the CVS and tried to rob it, but was unsuccessful, so he ran outside, where he pushed a woman in the chest and knocked her to the ground.
As they wrestled, he started to pull at her backpack but became "startled" by a passerby and fled again in the car.
His fourth robbery try was at the Walgreens about 7:20 a.m. when he confronted a cashier who was trying to close a cash drawer.
When he reached over and grabbed money from the drawer, the cashier tried to pull the money from his hand. He ran behind the counter and began hitting her, pushed her into a wall and grabbed the money tray before running out of the store.
Prosecutors said in bond court today that he asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes before grabbing $252 from the cash register.
Once brought into custody a short while later, officers found $223 in his pockets and $40 in a silver Chevrolet 2-door car he'd been driving. He was brought back to the victims, who identified him.
Once he was examined at Resurrection Medical Center, authorities found he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
This is Kanatselis' fourth arrest this year. In February and May, he was arrested on domestic battery charges, but both cases were dismissed. On Aug. 27, he was arrested on a theft charge and ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail, but charges were later dropped.

Drunk man rammed SUV into car repeatedly
A 25-year-old Chicago man faces a litany of charges arising out of an alleged attack Saturday night when, according to prosecutors, he repeatedly crashed his 2000 Ford Explorer into another vehicle on the city's Northwest Side.
Michael Bambouyani, 25, of the 5900 block of West Irving Park Road, is charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident with injury or death, following too closely, negligent driving, failure to reduce speed, failure to carry or display ID and driving without insurance or valid registration. Bambouyani limped into bond court Sunday wearing a wrinkled suit splattered with blood.
Bambouyani stepped in front of the victims' Nissan Altima about 10 p.m. near North Laramie Avenue and West Dakin Street, taunting the driver to run him over, according to prosecutors and court records. After a fight with the victims, Bambouyani got in his truck and ran it into the Altima several times, causing damage to the vehicle and injury to people in it. After fleeing the scene, Bambouyani was stopped by police in the 5500 block of West Montrose Avenue.
Bambouyani refused a field sobriety test and chemical tests to determine his blood alcohol level. But he smelled of alcohol and was "highly agitated and belligerent."
While getting booked into jail, Bambouyani proceeded to smear blood from a cut on his nose onto the walls of the processing room, according to court records. He spit blood on the windows and urinated on the floor, according to records.
According to prosecutors, Bambouyani's driving record includes charges of DUI in 2004 and 2006 and leaving the scene of an accident in 2006.
Bambouyani was found to have a valid driver's license. But his license was set to be revoked April 1 by the Illinois Secretary of State's office for "habitually being in violation of motor vehicle laws,"
