Comcast worker shot during apparent robbery

A  Comcast worker was shot and seriously wounded early this afternoon after parking his truck in an alley in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.
Two men approached the worker around 12:55 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue, took his cell phone and wallet and shot him in the stomach.
The robbers fled in a white car.
The worker, 45, was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The worker's truck was parked in the alley between Kingston and Essex Avenue when the robbery occurred.

2 men shot in South Shore

About 7 p.m. Friday, a 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were each shot in the arm during an altercation with a male in the 2600 block of East 76^th Street in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side. After shooting the two, the male assailant struck the 23-year-old man with a blunt instrument.
The man and woman who were shot were both taken to local hospitals, where their conditions were stabilized.
Police took the shooter into custody, as well as a female who had provided him with the blunt instrument. Charges were pending early this morning.

Charges filed in 12-year-old's slaying

Authorities arrested and charged the suspected lookout in a May 2012 shooting that killed a 12-year-old boy as he ran to his South Side home for dinner.
Prosecutors said Denzel Garbutt was helping the unidentified gunman, who intended to shoot a gang rival but instead shot Nazia “Peanut” Banks in the 8000 block of South Brandon Avenue.
Chicago police arrested Garbutt, 21, while serving a search warrant at his apartment in the 8000 block of South Shore Drive on Tuesday night. Officers recovered a revolver, ammunition, what they suspect was marijuana and codeine-laced cough syrup.
Authorities said Garbutt told investigators that two men asked him to look out for police while they attacked a rival standing nearby on May 19, 2012.
Minutes later, he said he heard gunshots down the street and saw a silver car speed away. One of the two men later told Garbutt that he felt bad that Banks had been killed, but said he wasn’t turning himself in

17-year-old boy shot in South Shore

About 2:15 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot on the 7300 block of South Shore Drive in the South Shore neighborhood.
The boy suffered a wound to his shoulder and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital

74-year-old man shot dead in South Shore

A 74-year-old man was found dead inside a car around 4:45 a.m. today. He suffered several gunshot wounds and died at the scene in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue

41 year old man shot dead in South Shore

A man, 41, was found dead in a car in the 6700 block of South East End Avenue. The man had been shot several times.

Man dead in South Side crash

A 22-year-old man died in a South Side crash Monday afternoon.
He was a passenger in a car whose driver lost control aout 2:50 p.m. as they traveled north in the 6600 block of Jeffery Boulevard. The driver, 23, is in custody and suspected of driving while intoxicated. 
The car skidded into southbound traffic and was hit by on an oncoming car on its passenger side.
Loveless, of the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead there about 3:45 p.m.

Man handed 70 years in 2009 slaying

A  man was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the murder of a man who was shot multiple times as he sat in his vehicle on the city's South Side.
Michael Dawson, 29, had been convicted of first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Famous Ware who was 39 years old at the time of his death.
Ware was sitting in a vehicle on the 2100 block of East 68th Street on Jan. 3, 2009, when Dawson and two gang members approached with handguns and opened fire.
Ware was struck five times and died at the scene.
One of the gunmen, Christopher Jones, had pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting earlier this year and was sentenced to 21 years in prison for his role in Ware's death.
The other gunman was never identified or charged in the slaying.

24-year-old man shot in South Shore

At about 12:10 a.m. a 24-year-old man was shot inside a convenience store in the 2600 block of East 79th Street.
The man was shot by a gunman who had walked inside with a female and fired shots. He was struck in twice in the thighs and once in the abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Police warn of robberies in South Shore neighborhood

Police are warning residents of the South Shore neighborhood of a string of November robberies.
The robberies have happened in the area bordered by South Yates Boulevard, South South Shore Drive, East 72nd Street and East 74th Street.
A suspect or suspects have displayed a black steel handgun and announced a robbery.
Police described a possible suspect as a black man between 20 and 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 150 to 190 pounds, with braids or dreadlocks.

Man who battered girlfriend shoots self in ear

A man is being questioned after apparently shooting himself in the ear this morning as he was battering his girlfriend in the South Shore neighborhood.
The incident happened on the 7800 block of South Cregier Avenue at about 5 a.m..
When police arrived they found the 43-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his ear and they also found a 57-year-old woman who had been beaten.
Police said the man was battering the woman with his fists when he allegedly grabbed a gun and threatened to shot his girlfriend. As the two continued to struggle, the gun discharged and struck the man in the ear.
The woman was taken to Jackson Park Hospital for non-life threatening injuries where her condition had stabilized.
The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr., hospital of Cook County where he was treated and released this morning.

41-year-old man shot during attempt robbery

A 41-year-old man was hurt in what police described as an attempted robbery.
The man was walking in the 7800 block of South Shore Drive when someone approached on foot and announced a robbery about 2 a.m.
During a struggle, the man was shot in right forearm. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

29-year-old man  shot in River North

A 29-year-old man was shot early this morning as he drove in the Fulton River District neighborhood.
About 4:15 a.m., the man was driving in the 500 block of West Grand Avenue when a second vehicle pulled alongside and someone opened fire.
Despite sustaining four gunshot wounds, the man continued driving to the 1300 block of West Lake Street, where he parked the vehicle. He was with at least two other people.
The man then drove himself or was driven to Rush University Medical Center, and he was transferred soon after to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Police said he sustained two gunshot wounds to the arm and one each to the chest and abdomen. The wounds were described as superficial, and the man was listed in good condition.

21-year-old man shot in Brighton Park

Early Saturday morning, a man was wounded in a shooting on the Southwest Side in the city's Brighton Park neighborhood. That shooting happened about 3:25 a.m. on the 4100 block of South Western Avenue.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, was walking on the sidewalk when he heard gunfire and soon after felt pain.
He was driven to Mount Sinai Hospital by a friend who was at the scene. The man suffered a wound to his left torso and was listed in serious condition

3 shot on Dan Ryan Expressway

Three people suffered what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries when they were shot this evening on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The three were shot on Interstate 94 northbound near 59th Street about 8:53 p.m.
The three went to St. Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center on their own, where they were being treated for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries

3 people shot in Chatham

Three people were shot about 1:15 a.m. as they walked down the sidewalk in the 7500 block of South Ingleside Avenue. Someone in a dark-colored sedan opened fire, striking the ankles of a 16-year-old girl, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man.
The girl was brought by ambulance to University of Chicago Medical Center, and someone drove the men to Jackson Park Hospital, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. Their conditions were stabilized.

21-year-old man shot in Back of the Yards

At about 2:10 a.m. someone opened fire on a car in the 1600 block of West 44th Place.
A bullet shattered the rear window of the car and struck a 21-year-old man in the head. The man was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was brought into emergency surgery

2 men shot in Lawndale

Two men were shot about 4 a.m. near the intersection of West Douglas Boulevard and South St. Louis Avenue.

48-year-old man shot during robbery in South Shore

About 3:30 a.m., a 48-year-old man was shot during a robbery in the 7800 block of South Burnham Avenue. The man was shot in the shoulder and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

3 men shot in Austin

Three men were shot about in the 5100 block of West Maypole Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. A 33-year-old man was struck in the foot and lower back and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, a 25-year-old man was shot in the back and taken in serious condition to Stroger, and a 36-year-old man was shot in the leg and buttocks and taken to Loretto Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 1:30 a.m., a man arrived at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after being shot in the left leg near the intersection of West Jarvis Avenue and North Campbell Avenue. Further

29-year-old man shot in Austin

A masked gunman approached a 29-year-old man and opened fire about 9:50 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway, Alfaro said. The 29-year old was struck in the elbow and both thighs and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

32 year old man shot in South Shore

Another man, 32, was shot near 69th Street and East End Avenue about 6 p.m. He was hit in both arms and one leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Man charged in 2011 South Shore homicide

A 22-year-old man being held in the Cook County jail on carjacking charges was charged with a 2011 homicide.
Dwayne Timberlake is charged with first-degree murder stemming from a shooting on Feb. 5, 2011 in the 2600 block of East 75th Street in the South Shore neighborhood.
He’s charged with killing Princess Streeter, 24 at the time of her death. She was shot about 2:05 a.m. Streeter's killer approached her on foot after she stepped out of her car, opened fire, then fled the scene on foot. She died three hours later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Timberlake was already in custody on aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint charges stemming from an attack in July.
According to police, Timberlake and another man robbed two men in the Bronzeville neighborhood in July. The two men robbed, 21 and 22, were standing outside a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo in the 600 block of East Bowen Avenue when Timberlake and another man ran through their pockets and fled the scene in the Monte Carlo

4 Chicago men arrested after trying to hijack off-duty cop's car

Four men were arrested overnight Sunday after they tried to hijack a car belonging to an off-duty police officer.
Marcus Johnson, 36, of the 4100 block of South Prairie Avenue; Deonta Brown, 21, of the 7400 block of South Yates Boulevard; Michael Jackson, 20, of the 2400 block of East 74th Street; and Rashee Herron, 21, of the 7400 block of South Phillips Street, were brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon and ordered held on $450,000 bond in the incident.
The off-duty officer told the officers who arrested the men that he was driving in the alley on Yates Boulevard when they surrounded his car and Herron pulled out an object that appeared to be a firearm.
"Get up out of this shit, this ain't no joke," Herron allegedly said to the driver. The driver replied that he was a police officer, and showed his assailants his own firearm.
One of the alleged offenders, apparently recognizing the man, said, "Oh shit, he is the police, he stays right up the street," according to the police report. The four men fled down the alley while the off-duty officer called 911. They were arrested just after midnight Monday morning.

At about 4 p.m., a 37-year-old man was shot in the 7600 block of South Shore Drive.
The man was taken in serious-to-critical condition from the South Shore neighborhood to Northwestern Memorial Hospital

55-year-old shot in Hyde Park

On the South Side, a 55-year-old man was critically hurt in a shooting in the East Hyde Park neighborhood.
Someone who had been involved in an earlier altercation with the 55-year-old walked up to the man about 8:55 p.m., as he stood on the sidewalk in the 5400 block of South Cornell Avenue.
The shooter pulled out a handgun and opened fire, hitting the man in the cheek, neck, and chest.
The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

18-year-old woman shot in Austin

At about 9:15 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg and hand.
The shooting happened in the 5800 block of West Superior Street, in the South Austin neighborhood.
The woman was talking with other people on the sidewalk when two male assailants approached and opened fire. The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized

14-year-old boy shot in South Shore

At about 1:30 p.m. in the South Side's South Shore neighborhood, someone shot a 14-year-old boy in the arm as he stood on the sidewalk in the 2100 block of East 68th Place.
The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He has since been released.

 16-year-old boy shot in Humboldt Park

A 16-year-old boy was shot about 4 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, in the West Side's Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Police said the boy was shot in the forearm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

2 men shot in West Pullman

A 30-year-old man was critically hurt when someone opened fire during a dispute involving a cell phone early this morning in the Far South Side's West Pullman neighborhood.
About 1:30 a.m., someone opened fire on a porch in the 11600 block of South Harvard Avenue, striking the man multiple times.
A witness told police at the scene he heard about seven or eight shots.
Shortly after the shooting, which happened on the east side of a southbound one-way street, police took a 34-year-old man into custody as a possible suspect. The shooting happened after a party during a dispute about the 34-year-old's phone.
Police said the shooter and the man shot may have known each other.
The 30-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in critical condition.
The 34-year-old man taken into custody was treated for a graze wound to the ankle. It was not immediately clear whether the wound was self-inflicted or whether someone else fired the shot.
The 34-year-old, who was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in custody, has not been charged.

31-year-old man shot in Pilsen

A 31-year-old man was shot while driving his vehicle in the Pilsen neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened about 5:15 a.m in the 900 block of West 19th Street. The man was taken with a gunshot wound to the leg to the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, where his condition was stabilized.

2 charged in South Shore slaying

A judge denied bail today for a 17-year-old boy and set a $500,000 bail for an 18-year-old man after they were charged with murder for the September shooting of a man in the South Shore neighborhood.
Omar Gunn, 17, of the 7600 block of East End Avenue, and Anthony Wells, 18, of the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, both appeared before Judge Israel Desierto, charged with murder.
The victim, 18-year-old Jaleel Pearson, was chased into a store and shot in the arm and chest on Sept. 20 about 6:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of East 71^st Street.
After being shot, Pearson was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m. that day.
Police arrested Gunn on Wednesday and Wells on Thursday

Woman charged in Baby's death

The guardian of a 9-month-old boy has been charged with murder several weeks after she beat him, shook him and slammed his head against a changing table.
Aiden Duke was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital on Sept. 28 and Patricia McKinney, 30, his guardian, was initially charged with aggravated battery to a child and ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail. McKinney has now been charged with first-degree murder.
Doctors alerted police after they determined Aiden, of the 7100 block of South Bennett Avenue, had suffered rib and skull fractures and other injuries believed to be the result of child abuse. He was declared dead at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 1, the day after McKinney initially appeared in court.
On Sept. 28, McKinney became angry because Aiden would not stop crying, prosecutors said today. McKinney held Aiden up in her arms, squeezing him and then shaking him until he stopped crying.
When Aiden started crying again, McKinney slammed him onto a bed and hit in the abdomen several times.
Later in the day, McKinney heard Aiden crying again, and went to pick him up. She slammed his head against the metal frame of a baby changing table, and when she realized he was no longer breathing, she began doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and called 911.
Aiden was taken to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined he had numerous injuries from child abuse. Among his injuries traceable to child abuse were skull fractures, as well as rib fractures in various states of healing, a broken left elbow, a bone chip from his left shoulder, a fractured left leg bone and possible brain atrophy.
Following an autopsy Oct. 2, the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined Aiden died from multiple injuries from child abuse in a homicide.
McKinney admitted to investigators that she had shaking Aiden, hitting him and slamming him down
