Driver dead, 3 hurt in South Side crash

A man was killed and three other people injured when a vehicle hit a light pole and a tree in the Pill Hill neighborhood early today.
The driver in the crash died following the accident in the 1800 block of East 93rd Street near Constance Avenue about 5:10 a.m.
Dead was Patrick Walker, 22, of the 700 block of East 68th Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 8:04 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn
 Men ages 30 and 22 were being treated at Christ Medical Center, where their conditions were stabilized, while another man, age 26, was expected to be treated and released from the same hospital.
Alcohol was suspected as a factor in the crash, but a determination was pending further investigation.
The vehicle in the accident was seen heading east on 93rd at high speed when it crossed the center line, hit an unoccupied parked car at the north curb of 93rd, then a light pole and a tree

Man charged in 2012 Pill Hill slaying

Bail was denied today for a 30-year-old Monee man charged with killing an 18-year-old man last September in Chicago's Pill Hill neighborhood.
According to a Cook County assistant state's attorney in bond court, Christopher Smith, of the 25700 block of South Taft Street in Monee, was driving a stolen white Buick on Sept. 28 through an alley at 9244 S. Chappel Avenue when he rolled down the passenger-side window and fired multiple rounds into a group.
The 18-year-old man, Derrick Davis, was shot in the head, according to court documents. He died from a gunshot wound, according to the medical examiner's office.
The prosecutor said multiple witnesses from the scene positively identified Smith as the shooter. Multiple shell casings from a .40-caliber gun were found in the stolen Buick, which was found abandoned nearby a short time after the shooting

Shooting in Chicago March 29- 30, 2013


 1 critically wounded in police-involved shooting on South Side
A person was critically wounded this afternoon in a police-involved shooting in the Pill Hill neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting happened in the 9400 block of South Jeffery Boulevard.
The person was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
According to a preliminary statement from police, about 3:15 p.m. Area South detectives heard shots fired near 95th Street and Jeffery Boulevard. The detectives radioed for help and followed three people who fled northbound on Jeffery.
One of the people was taken into custody on the 2000 block of East 94th Street, and two continued to flee.
As police approached one of the suspects they noticed the person had a weapon. Detectives ordered the person to drop the weapon but the person did not listen.
Instead the person pointed the weapon in direction of the detectives,. The detectives discharged their weapons, striking the person.
No police were injured during the shooting.
2 men shot in South Shore
Two men were critically wounded late this afternoon in a shooting on the South Side in the city's South Shore neighborhood.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded shortly after 5 p.m. to the 7100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue.
One victim, 28, was shot in his chest. The other man, 25, suffered wounds to his right hand and hip. Both men were taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital
22 year old shot in Lawndale
Shortly before 6 p.m., a 22-year-old man was wounded by gunfire on the West Side in the city's Lawndale neighborhood.
That shooting happened on the 4000 block of West 16th Street.
That person was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
Man shot in Englewood
At about 7:40 p.m., a man in his 20s was shot in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue. Police said the man was in good condition at the scene of the shooting, which happened in the West Englewood neighborhood.
22 year old man shot in Lawndale
Just before 7 p.m., someone in a van shot a 22-year-old man standing on a street corner in the Lawndale neighborhood.
Following the shooting, which happened in the 4000 block of West 16th Street, the van fled the scene.

27 year old man shot in Englewood
At about 2:30 a.m. this morning, a 27-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 7300 block of South Honore Street in the West Englewood neighborhood.
The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in serious condition
18 year old woman shot in Lawndale
Saturday morning, an 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg about 12:05 a.m. in the 3100 block of West Arthington Street.
The woman was listed in stable condition. The shooting happened in the Lawndale neighborhood.
35 year old man shot in Park Manor
A 35-year-old man was shot in the head about 11:40 p.m. Friday while riding in a vehicle in the Park Manor neighborhood.
After the shooting, which happened in the 300 block of East 69th Street, the man was taken to Stroger in serious but stable condition.
The man had "observed an altercation" from inside the vehicle before hearing shots and feeling pain

41 year old man shot in Londwood Manor
 At about 10:30 p.m. in the Longwood Manor neighborhood, a 41-year-old man was shot in the leg in an alley in the 100 block of West 95th Street. The man was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The victim told police he heard shots and felt pain
23 year old shot in South Chicago
At about 8:20 p.m., a group of males shouting gang slogans attacked another group of people walking down in the sidewalk in the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood. One of the attackers shot a 23-year-old man in the buttocks, and the man was taken to Nor 22-year-old man who had been walking with the 23-year-old sustained lacerations to the side of his mouth during the attack, and he was treated at South Shore Hospital. thwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
34 year old man shot in South Shore
34-year-old man was shot in both forearms while driving this afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.
 The victim told police he was driving south on Kingston Avenue when, at 75th Street, a gunman he did not know began shooting and he was struck in both forearms.
Following the 2:51 p.m. shooting, he drove himself to South Shore Hospital, where he was in good condition

Father, 12-year-old son shot on South Side
A man and his 12-year-old son were shot while getting into a car this morning in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting occurred at 9:39 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Prairie Avenue.
Both suffered wounds that are not considered life-threatening, said Mirabelli, who added they drove themselves to Roseland Community Hospital.
"We're not sure what led to this," said Mirabelli of the incident.The 38-year-old father told police he and his son were trying to enter a car when a gunman came by and, for no apparent reason, “started popping" at them.
A witness told police the father also had a gun and they were wounded during an exchange of gunfire.
The man tried to shield his son but the boy was hit in his right thigh and the man in his right foot, police said. Their conditions had stabilized at the hospital.
Shell casings from semi automatic handgun were found on the scene and two guns – a handgun and a revolver – were recovered

Pill Hill neighborhood shooting leaves teen dead

Someone fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in the head tonight in the Pill Hill neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The boy was shot in the 9200 block of South Chappel Avenue.
 The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.
No one else was wounded in the shooting, which happened about 6:15 p.m.

Seventeen-year-old Derrick Davis, who lived one block north of where he was killed, was shot in the 9200 block of South Chappel Avenue about 6:15 p.m.

4 shot at family party in Pill Hill neighborhood

Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, were shot and wounded late Sunday when a pair of gunmen opened fire at a family party in the Pill Hill neighborhood on the city's South Side.
The 10:45 p.m. shooting in the 9100 block of South Chappel Avenue.
The victims were among a larger crowd of partygoers in a backyard on South Chappel when two gunmen appeared and opened fire on the group.
The victims included a 16-year-old boy who was wounded in the back and an 18-year-old man struck in the right elbow.
A 51-year-old woman was wounded in the buttocks, while the girl suffered a graze wound to the left calf.
The girl was taken by a relative to nearby Advocate Trinity Hospital, while the other three were hospitalized.

39-year-old man shot dead in grade school parking lot, during bad drug deal, in the Pill Hill neighborhood

A 39-year-old man was shot three times inside his car early Sunday morning on the Southeast Side and died in his front seat.
Police responded to a shots-fired call about 3 a.m. and found the man in his car with the window down in the parking lot of Warren Elementary School, 9239 S. Jeffery Blvd. in the Pill Hill neighborhood.
He was shot once in the head and twice in the chest. Police said he had crack cocaine in his hand and more next to his body.
