Two people were taken to a hospital after a shooting near the University of
Illinois at Chicago in the Illinois Medical District neighborhood this
afternoon.
A male of an unknown age was shot in the hip about 12:40 p.m. in the 700
block of South Paulina Street.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said three ambulances were
sent to the scene for a shooting and took two people to John H. Stroger Jr.
Hospital of Cook County.
One victim’s condition was serious while the other was not

After the shooting, a suspect got into a car and drove off but collided with
another car at Harrison Street and Paulina Avenue and ran off.
The suspect was described as a black man, 40-50, weighing 250 pounds, Burton
said. He is bald or was wearing a skull cap, and was dressed in a black top,
jeans and possibly wore glasses, according to Burton. He may be with a female
companion, and one or both may be injured.
