Authorities are investigating the death of an 11-month-old girl after she was
found not breathing Sunday morning. Zoniya Gordon, of the 11300 block of
South May Street, was found unresponsive at a home in the 1300 block of West
110th Street, and declared dead at 7:03 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center
in Oak Lawn.
Police were called to the home about 7 a.m. and got there after
paramedics arrived to respond to a report of a child not able to breathe.
The girl
may have been found unresponsive in a dog’s bed, according to the medical
examiner’s office.
The
Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of
neglect in connection with the child’s death. The agency has had prior contact with the girl’s family, including a
pending case of neglect that was initiated on Oct. 10. Another child in the
girl’s home has been placed in the custody of relatives.
