A 30-year-old man died early this morning after being shot multiple times one week ago in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, the second member of his family to die from gunshot wounds over the last several months.
Alphonso Love, 30, was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai
Hospital after having been shot a week earlier on Sept. 21.
Love was getting out of a car about 1:25 a.m. when the shooter approached and
opened fire in the 1200 block of South Kedvale Avenue. He suffered gunshot
wounds to the abdomen, left arm, and right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai in
Police said Love's two sisters were shot at 11:25 May 17 outside a family
prom party in the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue; one of those sisters died. A
third person, a 38-year-old man, was also wounded during the May shooting.
The May shooting occurred just blocks from the place where Alphonso Love was
shot last weekend.
Quintana Love, 27, of the 1300 block of South Tripp Avenue, was pronounced
dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 12:10 p.m. May 25.
Police said at the time that Quintana Love had been shot in the neck,
apparently with either an AK-47-style gun or one of two Tec-9 machine pistols
police found discarded half a block away.
Her sister, a 38-year-old woman, lost a piece of her arm, and the 38-year-old
man was shot in the back.
