State child welfare authorities are investigating the parents and grandmother of a 4-month old boy for child abuse after the child’s death was ruled a homicide today.
Demari Brown, of the 6000 block of
South Honore Street, died Thursday of multiple blunt force injuries from child
abuse. Demari’s death was ruled a homicide.
Demari’s mother, father, and maternal grandmother
are facing allegations of abuse. There has been no prior contact
with the family.
About 11 a.m. Thursday, police were called to
the home in the 6000 block of South Honore Street for an unresponsive child.
Police were told the boy's mother had put him down for a nap, and later his
father checked on him and found him unresponsive.
The infant was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was
pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
