A 15-year-old boy was wounded multiple times Wednesday night in a shooting on
the city's Southwest Side.
A gunman opened fire on the teen in the 3300 block of West 83rd Street in the
Ashburn
neighborhood just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The boy, wounded as many
as four times, ran a half block to the 8100 block of South Spaulding Avenue
before he collapsed.
The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical
condition, though police said his condition had stabilized by late
Wednesday.
The teen told police that he heard gunshots and suddenly felt pain in his
back and buttocks.
While the boy denied having any gang ties, police believe he belongs to a
faction of the Gangster Disciples street gang that is at odds with a separate
faction. Officers in the area were monitoring gang activity, trying to quell any
retaliation.
