A Bronzeville man was charged in connection with an attack in the Lakeview
neighborhood that left a man battered and a police officer injured while trying
to make an arrest.
Witnesses fingered Steven L. Harris as the man who attacked another
31-year-old man in the 900 block of West Belmont Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.
Monday.
When a Town Hall District officer attempted to question Harris, police said
that Harris started struggling and fell through a glass window at a yogurt shop.
The officer suffered a severe cut to his right hand, said
Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman. But another officer was able to
handcuff the suspect and take him into custody.
Harris, of the 5000 block
of South St. Lawrence Avenue, was later charged with felony criminal damage to
property, felony resisting a police officer and misdemeanor battery. Both the officer and the battery victim were treated and released from area
hospitals.
