Parolee accused in weekend slaying

A South Side man out on parole for attempted murder is accused with fatally shooting another man in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Anthony Smith, 26, was charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday morning slaying of Hansen Jackson.
After hearing gunshots near the intersection of Chicago and Ridgeway avenues just before 2 a.m. Sunday, police officers actually saw Smith fire multiple shots at the 29-year-old victim.
The officers arrested Smith after a blocklong foot chase and recovered a handgun.
Jackson, 29, of the 1500 block of South 61st Court in Cicero, was struck multiple times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Smith, of the 9000 block of South Wallace Street, had been out on parole since last November from the Robinson Correctional Center following a 2007 conviction for attempted first-degree murder, according to court and state records.
After pleading guilty, Smith was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to serve 85 percent of his sentence, but he was credited with 621 days served in Cook County Jail leading up to the trial, records show
