A teen-aged boy was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in the weekend
slaying of a 16-year-old girl in the South Side's West
Englewood neighborhood.
Antuan Gainor, 16, of Chicago, is accused of shooting Shakaki Asphy three
times in the chest and killing her, said Andy Conklin, a spokesman for Cook
County State's Attorney Anita
Alvarez.
Gainor is also charged with attempted murder after shooting a 21-year-old
man, who uses a wheelchair and was with Asphy during the crime.
The shooting happened about 7 p.m. Saturday near West 70th Place and South
Damen Avenue. Chicago police said the 21-year-old survivor, an alleged gang
member, may have been the intended target.
