Police warn of new delivery-driver robbery on Southwest Side
Following another robbery of a fast-food delivery driver on the Southwest Side, Chicago detectives are warning businesses in two police districts about people calling for deliveries using cell phones.
The robbery Sunday about 6 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Campbell Avenue is at least the third in recent months within a block.
Previously, drivers have been robbed on the same block Oct. 30 at 9 p.m. and in the 6700 block of South Campbell on Nov. 5 about 3:45 a.m..
In December, police said another robbery, on Nov. 15 at 7:50 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Talman Avenue, also was part of the same robbery pattern.
Robbers have been placing a fake order via cellphone, then robbing delivery drivers, according to police.
Police warned business owners to keep an eye out for the following phone numbers, which have been used to place the fake orders: 773-412-7771; 773-556-0419; and 773-430-0708.
Detectives cautioned businesses to tell delivery drivers to stay in their cars until a customer is in sight, and have customers leave porch or vestibule lights on for drivers.
Detectives also warned that callers asking for change for large bills should raise suspicion, and drivers should leave immediately if a property they are supposed to deliver to appears abandoned or vacant.
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Wentworth Area detectives at 312-747-8382.

Ghetto baby shower fight ends in the death of 9 month old baby- The consequences for actin all ghetto
Detroit — A fight over a seat at a baby shower triggered the killing of a 9-month-old boy, according to the victim's grandmother.
Delric Miller IV died Monday as he slept on the couch in his home on the 8400 block of Greenview Avenue. Police said someone fired at the house with an AK-47-type assault rifle about 4:30 a.m., leaving behind 37 shells. One of the rounds hit the baby, who was pronounced dead at Sinai-Grace Hospital.
Delric's grandmother, Cynthia Wilkins, said she believes the shooting was retaliation for a skirmish Sunday at a baby shower at Club Celebrity on Plymouth Rd. in Detroit.
"The shower was overbooked, and there was an argument because there weren't enough seats," said Wilkins. Her daughter, Diamond Salter, attended the shower, which was thrown by a friend, Wilkins said.
"A woman got mad because she couldn't find a seat, so she started knocking tables down, and it escalated from there," Wilkins said. "My daughter and her friends left the club, but (a group of men and women) followed them to a gas station, and there was a fight with one of the guys who was at the shower with my daughter. Then, they followed them to the house.
"I think they came back the next day and shot up the house," said Wilkins, who sobbed as she recounted the events. "They went to the shower to celebrate life; instead, a life was destroyed."
The shooting has outraged both police and residents, and prompted Detroit 300, a group of community activists fed up with crime, to go door-to-door asking questions, in hopes of finding the killer or killers.
A task force consisting of the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case.
"Life is not valued in Detroit. It's a war zone here," Wilkins said. "We need some ground troops patrolling these streets; they send them all overseas, but they need to be here."
The death was the 43rd homicide in the city this year, up from 35 in the period last year. It's also the second killing of a youngster in Detroit in the past month.
"Again, adult behavior has brought another child in Detroit to an end," said Police Chief Ralph Godbee

Indictment announced against patronage scandal figure-The taxpayer pays while the slick play- thanks liberal do-gooders
A one-time steakhouse busboy who became a key player in a patronage scandal involving former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger was indicted today on charges he fraudulently collected state and federal housing assistance by hiding his $60,000-a-year county job.
Tony Cole, 32, was charged with two counts of theft of government property and one count of state benefits fraud totaling more than $5,000.
Prosecutors said that when Cole, a onetime college basketball star from Louisiana with a long rap sheet, applied to live at a South Side apartment complex in January 2008, he told the staff he was unemployed and had recently relocated after surviving Hurricane Katrina.
Based on his application, Cole was awarded federal and state housing assistance of $700 per month for rent and $97 for utilities.
In October 2008, Stroger personally hired Cole as a human resources assistant in the county highway department after meeting him when he worked as a busboy at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
In his six-month employment, Cole was promoted twice by Stroger, eventually being paid $29.34 an hour.
In February 2009, Cole filled out a renewal lease application that again misstated his income and employment.
“At that time, Cole signed documents in which he stated that he had no income, no employment and had no intention of finding employment, despite being employed by Cook County with an effective $60,000 annual salary,”.
Cole’s hiring exploded into a political scandal in 2009 that led to calls for Stroger’s resignation and the ousting of his cousin, Donna Dunnings, from her job as the county’s top financial officer because of her connections to Cole.
Stroger fired Cole in April 2009, saying he had concealed his felony record.

Man once suspected in slaying of officer guilty on drug charges
A reputed gang member who was once implicated in the killing of a Chicago police officer, only to have those charges later dropped, was found guilty today by a federal jury on drug charges.
Prosecutors said Jason “J-Rock” Austin was overseeing a 24-hour heroin and crack market at Kedzie Avenue and Ohio Street known as “KO.”
Austin was charged by Cook County prosecutors in 2008 for killing off-duty Chicago police Officer Robert Soto and Soto’s companion.
Prosecutors dropped the case a month later due to lack of evidence and problems with statements from witnesses.
Austin’s alleged involvement in Soto’s murder was never a part of the federal charges against him.
But when Austin was indicted on the drug charges, law enforcement sources said Soto’s shooting launched the federal probe into his drug-trafficking operation

West Side high school coach stabbed trying to stop ghetto girl fight
A coach at an East Garfield Park high school was stabbed and seriously injured by a 16-year-old girl while trying to break up a fight outside the school.
The 21-year-old woman came upon the fight at about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday behind the Al Raby School for Community and Environment in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street.
Several teens were fighting, and the coach tried to separate two of them. One of the two teens, a 16-year-old girl, brandished a knife and stabbed the coach in the chest.
Police officers arrested the girl and cited her as a juvenile with battery, Mirabelli said. Police believe the knife had been hidden outside the school and was grabbed by the teen during the altercation.

Cook Co. Commissioner William "Leave it to Beaver" Beavers indicted on tax charges accuses John "Lumpy" Daley of being dirty also

Beavers allegedly did not report thousands of dollars that he converted to personal use from his campaign accounts, including more than $68,000 in personal gain on one occasion that was not reported, as well as from his county discretionary spending
Beavers is accused in the indictment of not reporting as income thousands of dollars that he converted to personal use from his campaign accounts -- including more than $68,000 on one occasion -- as well as from his county discretionary spending account.
Between 2006 and 2008, Beavers paid himself more than $225,000 from three separate campaign accounts and used at least a portion of that money for personal purposes, including gambling, the indictment alleges.
In 2006, he used more than $68,000 from a campaign account to boost his city pension, and between 2006 and 2008 he used his $1,200 monthly county contingency account for personal purposes without reporting any of the funds as income on his federal tax returns.
Beavers insisted today that all his taxes were paid and suggested the indictment is payback by federal prosecutors. Beavers contended he was notified by letter that he was under investigation regarding his taxes a week after he rebuffed the government request to wear a wire

John "Lumpy" Daley |
John Daley denied any knowledge of a federal probe and accused Beavers of drawing him into the controversy to divert attention from his indictment.
“This thing today is about Bill Beavers. You’ve seen Bill Beavers and I interact at the County Board meetings. It’s not so positive. So he’s trying to switch the focus, and he’s so far been pretty successful,” Daley said.
“This switches the focus from him to me. He’s been able to shift the focus from the indictment of him today — to pull me into it.”
When asked if he knew of any federal investigation into him, Daley said, “No.”
Patrick Fitzgerald would not comment on Beavers’ allegations about Daley but cautioned reporters. “We don’t comment on people not charged,” he said. “We’re alleging tax crimes against one person, and that’s all I’ll say.
Robber wounded during struggle hit with attempted murder charge
An Edgewater man was charged days after Chicago police said he was shot in the leg with his own gun while trying to rob another man inside a West Side convenience store.
Police said that Darrick Peterson's plan to rob his 26-year-old victim quickly fell apart when the man fought back inside the store in the 700 block of South Pulaski Road on Sunday afternoon. The scuffle ended with Peterson's pistol firing, striking himself in the leg and hitting an artery, leaving him critically injured,.
The gunshot also grazed an 11-year-old boy inside the store at the time, police said. He was treated and released the night of the shooting.
Peterson, 24, of the 5800 block of North Sheridan Road, was charged Tuesday with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm.
The same day that he was charged, a Cook County judge ordered Peterson -- who remained hospitalized at Mount Sinai Hospital at the time -- held on $2 million bond, according to court records.
Peterson and an accomplice, who remained at large, tried robbing the victim outside the store, but the victim ran into the nearby store hoping to evade them, police said, citing early reports. Peterson has a prior felony drug conviction, according to court records.

Man gets 75 years in '08 killing of girl, 10
A Chicago man was sentenced to 75 years in prison today for the slaying of a 10-year-old girl caught in gang crossfire while stooping to tie the shoes of her blind younger sister near their South Side home.
Judge Kenneth Wadas handed down the sentence to Raymond Jones, 22, who was convicted of first-degree murder for his role in the September 2008 shooting death of Nequiel Fowler.
Prosecutors said Jones had met up with co-defendants Antoine Lacy, Joseph Chico and Luis Pena, who were all members of a street gang looking to shoot members of a rival gang.
Chico, who cut a deal with prosecutors in exchange for a 14-year prison term, testified at trial that he and Lacy were near 87th Street and South Exchange Avenue when they heard about six gunshots and then fled the scene with Pena, who was accused of firing the shot that struck Nequiel. Jones later hid the weapon in his home, according to trial testimony.
Lacy, 29, was sentenced last week to 60 years in prison. Pena is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Atheists and deniers of God lack common sense
Some men can look at a beautiful watch and wonder who its creator was. Was it Rolex, Timex or Tag Heuer?
Them same men will look at nature's beauty and say it was created by accident.
19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

Chicago Public School teachers want a 30% pay raise
Only in education could you demand a higher pay for churning out an inferior product, but that’s just what the Chicago teachers unions want for doing the jobs they were paid to do, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel might be doing some good yet in pushing for some school reforms that improve educational quality and by training his attention on the unions that imperil those reforms. Emanuel appeared in a film by Big Government’s own, Kyle Olson, and narrated by Juan Williams, and has this to say, according to The New York Times:

Mayor Rahm Emanuel might be doing some good yet in pushing for some school reforms that improve educational quality and by training his attention on the unions that imperil those reforms. Emanuel appeared in a film by Big Government’s own, Kyle Olson, and narrated by Juan Williams, and has this to say, according to The New York Times:
“Do I think the union leadership has been a problem in resisting? Absolutely,” Mr. Emanuel told Mr. Williams in the video interview, which was conducted in October. He also said: “I think the system was never designed to benefit the kids.” And he lauds teachers at the Noble Street charter network’s schools as being “on a mission” and “not just doing a job.”The implication of Emanuel’s comments are that Chicago’s public school teachers have been doing a poor job, an observation borne out by the data: Nearly 40% of Chicago public school students drop out. Perhaps the reason so many students drop out, Emanuel reasons, is that so little is demanded of them and they have ample time to get into trouble.
