A Blue Island man was cited for DUI and several other infractions after his SUV struck and killed a man unloading a beer truck, temporarily pinning him against a CTA bus Monday afternoon in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side.
Three others were also hospitalized.
Charles Kimbrough, 45, was pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
About 3 p.m., Kimbrough and his 64-year-old co-worker were unloading items from the truck in the 1400 block of West 115th Street when a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe speeding west struck a 1997 Ford Aerostar, forcing the Aerostar into a third vehicle, police said.
The Santa Fe then struck Kimbrough, pinning him between the SUV and a CTA bus that had stopped to pick up passengers.
The car's driver initially tried to flee but was apprehended and arrested.
Three people, including the bus' driver and a passenger, were hospitalized with non serious injuries.
The Santa Fe's driver, Walter Thompson, 30, of the 12900 block of Page Court in Blue Island, received several traffic citations, including DUI, driving on a revoked/suspended license, as well as three separate tickets for leaving the scene of an accident.
