Police issued a community alert today warning residents about a man who tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl more than a week ago in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
About 3 p.m. Feb. 9, the girl was walking on the 6000 block of South Lawndale Avenue when a man approached her on foot and grabbed her by the arm, police said.The girl was able to escape and told her parents.
Police described the man as a Hispanic male, between the ages of 40 to 50, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He has white and grayish hair and was last seen wearing a long dark-colored raincoat, police said.
Police said he spoke Spanish to the girl.
