A 30-year-old Chicago man was ordered held without bail today after being charged with fatally shooting a man during a party in Lawndale earlier this month.
Calvin Brooks, 30, of the 2200 block of South Hamlin Avenue, is charged with first degree murder.According to prosecutors, Brooks got into an argument with the victim, Anthony Linnear, at about 1 a.m., on Feb. 12. The argument broke out in a party in the 1900 block of South Lawndale Avenue.
The two wrestled over a gun that Brooks allegedly pulled out of his waistband before he shot Linnear in the leg.
Linnear continued to struggle, but ended up on the ground, prosecutors said. Brooks shot him in the lower buttocks and chest. Linnear died at the scene.
