A teenage girl was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as she crossed a major intersection in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
Police were called to the intersection of 80th Street and Ashland Avenue at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday where the girl had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.Early reports indicate that the girl, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was struck by a light-colored minivan as she ran across Ashland, police said.
The driver stopped momentarily before fleeing the scene.
Paramedics took the 15-year-old girl to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died.
UPDATE:
The victim was identified by authorities and family as Aaliyah Kalimullah-Dunn, of the 15600 block of Myrtle Avenue in Harvey.
