2 dead in chain-reaction crash on Dan Ryan

Two people died and four others were injured in a chain-reaction crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway that involved at least one car, a minivan, a bus and two semi trucks.
The accident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Thursday when the semi jack-knifed in the local southbound lanes of the Ryan at 47th Street,. A tour bus hit the trailer of the truck, then a beige 1999 Pontiac swerved while trying to avoid hitting the tour bus and was hit by a red 2008 Sterling semi-trailer tractor truck, then hit the concrete median, State Police said. The minivan then slid sideways into the Sterling semi.
A witness told police the semi jack-knifed, but was able to straighten out and drive on after the accident. State police said he may have noticed the bus striking the trailer, and they were searching for him this morning.
Officials were seeking alcohol-related charges against the driver of the minivan.
Two passengers in the van – William Ross, 62, and Leanna Cain, 57, both of Chicago -- were killed. The man was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The woman was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital and was pronounced dead after midnight, the office said. Another person was taken to the hospital also in serious-to-critical condition.
Three other people were taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good-to-fair condition.
The driver of the tour bus, a man, 57, of Naperville, the driver of the Pontiac, a woman, 21, of Chicago, and the driver of the Sterling semi, a man, 57, of Naperville, all suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to state police
