Following another robbery of a fast-food delivery driver on the Southwest Side, Chicago detectives are warning businesses in two police districts about people calling for deliveries using cell phones.
The robbery Sunday about 6 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Campbell Avenue is at least the third in recent months within a block.
Previously, drivers have been robbed on the same block Oct. 30 at 9 p.m. and in the 6700 block of South Campbell on Nov. 5 about 3:45 a.m..
In December, police said another robbery, on Nov. 15 at 7:50 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Talman Avenue, also was part of the same robbery pattern.
Robbers have been placing a fake order via cellphone, then robbing delivery drivers, according to police.
Police warned business owners to keep an eye out for the following phone numbers, which have been used to place the fake orders: 773-412-7771; 773-556-0419; and 773-430-0708.
Detectives cautioned businesses to tell delivery drivers to stay in their cars until a customer is in sight, and have customers leave porch or vestibule lights on for drivers.
Detectives also warned that callers asking for change for large bills should raise suspicion, and drivers should leave immediately if a property they are supposed to deliver to appears abandoned or vacant.
