SW Side man charged in crash that injured Police Sergeant

Authorities hit a Southwest Side man with felonies and numerous traffic citations following a crash that seriously injured a Chicago police sergeant.
Rolando Robledo, of the 6000 block of South Mozart Avenue, faces both felony aggravated DUI and misdemeanor DUI charges in connection to the Wednesday morning crash near the intersection of 59th Street and California Avenue.
The officer's vehicle collided with a green Ford at about 2:22 a.m. at the Chicago Lawn intersection.
The officer was admitted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, though authorities said he was improving.
Robledo was treated at Holy Cross Hospital. Robledo was issued several tickets, including criminal damage to government property, failing to reduce his speed, driving on a suspended license and disobeying a traffic signal.

Hit-and-run driver kills man near Division and LaSalle intersection (In Chicago the sanctuary city- Not Legal, Not Licensed, Not Insured, Not charged with Reckless Homicide)

A man in his 20s died after being hit by an SUV driven by a possibly-intoxicated 21-year-old woman at the Near North Side intersection of Division and LaSalle streets early Saturday morning.
The woman fled the scene but was caught a couple blocks away.
The man was taken from the 1100 block of North LaSalle Street to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center but the extent of her injuries wasn't known.
Citations against the woman are pending

The victim was identified as Jesse Bradley, of 1140 N. LaSalle Dr., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was declared dead at 2:54 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Bradley was a third year law student at Northwestern University Law School, according to university spokesman Alan Cubbage.

 Authorities on Sunday night have charged Bianca Garcia, 21, who was behind the wheel of the Jeep Liberty that fatally struck Jesse Bradley.
Garcia, of the 1800 block of West 34th Street, was charged with felony aggravated DUI, misdemeanor DUI, and misdemeanor reckless driving, police said. She was also cited for having no driver's license, no insurance and driving the wrong way on a one-way street

Two charged with South, Southwest Side armed robberies of illegal aliens

Two suburban siblings were charged with using a fake gun to hold up   illegal alien women standing alone outside on the city’s South and Southwest Sides.
Jaclyn Madera, 28, and Steven Madera, 36, both of Lemont, each face six counts of armed robbery.
Steven was charged with aggravated battery for having a replica gun and was charged in five incidents and Jaclyn was charged in four incidents
At least one victim was injured during the pair’s alleged spree and the two were arrested Thursday night in the 4600 block of South Mozart in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood

Sweep targets Chicago-area ILLEGAL ALIEN gang members

A week-long sweep by federal and local law enforcement officials in the Chicago area netted the arrests of 25 foreign-born gang members, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced today.
Agents of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations partnered with police from Chicago, Aurora, Barrington, Elgin, Joliet, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Romeoville from Sept. 6 to Tuesday in the arrests of the 25 Mexican nationals, according to the release.
Those arrested range in age from 18 to 35 and are members or associates of the Latin Kings, Vice Lords, Satan Disciples, Latin Saints, Party People or Sureno 13 street gangs, officials said.
Two of the 25 are in state custody on outstanding drug charges, while the others are in ICE custody pending deportation. Officials said most of those arrested have criminal records in the United States of convictions ranging from drug possession and vehicle theft to assault and concealing a homicide

Illegal alien charged in stabbing, bar fight over woman

A man remains behind bars Wednesday after a bar brawl in the Lincoln Square neighborhood that left a woman and her boyfriend hospitalized late Saturday.

 Jorge Hernandez, 28, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery in a public place.

 The incident started late Saturday when Hernandez, of Irving, Tx., allegedly grabbed the woman’s buttocks at the Grafton Pub & Grill, 4522 N. Lincoln Ave.

 The woman’s boyfriend found out, confronted Hernandez and they began to fight. During the brawl Hernandez allegedly punched the woman and stabbed her boyfriend in the chest.

 The man stabbed was listed in “stable” condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center while the woman suffered a swollen left eye and was taken to the same hospital, also in “stable” condition.

SAN DIEGO — Two 16-year-old boys were charged Monday with rape, kidnapping, sodomy and other crimes in connection with a sexual assault this month of two girls in a Rancho Peñasquitos park.
Leonel Contreras and William Steven Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to 16 charges at an arraignment in San Diego Superior Court. Judge Michael Smyth ordered the pair held on $5 million each.
Prosecutors charged the juveniles as adults, which means the potential prison sentences are much greater. Thirteen of the charges carry maximum sentences of 25 years to life, meaning the two possibly face at least 325 years to life in prison.
Deputy District Attorney Wendy Patrick described a harrowing ordeal that began the evening of Sept. 3 when the two girls, ages 15 and 16, went to the park on Spindletop Road. They had been attending a family birthday party nearby.
Patrick said Rodriguez also lives in the neighborhood. But she emphasized three times that the attacks were a “stranger rape,” and neither of the girls knew their assailants.
The girls were accosted at knifepoint by two assailants in the park, Patrick told the judge. They were led out of the park and across the street, up an embankment and into a secluded area.
There, Patrick said the girls were forced to take off their clothes and then sexually assaulted, enduring what the prosecutor told Smyth was “every kind of rape you can imagine.”
The assailants took turns attacking each of the victims during the assault, which Patrick estimated lasted 30 to 40 minutes. It ended only when the attackers heard the voices of the girls’ family members calling for them.
Before fleeing on a bicycle that was hidden nearby, the two boys threatened the girls with harm if they told anyone about the assault, Patrick said.
The boys were arrested Thursday but were not together at the time. Rodriguez was arrested in Poway; Contreras in National City. How they knew each other was not explained in court.
Patrick said both are in the United States illegally.

Felons, too, among inmates who county won’t hold for immigration so forget that we said only misdemeanor charges

Steve Patterson, a spokesman for sheriff Tom Dart, backed that up in an e-mailed statement Thursday: “The [ordinance] affects anyone charged with a misdemeanor or felony crime who posts their bond or has their case adjudicated. If they also have an immigration detainer, normally that person would be turned over to immigration authorities within 48 hours. Instead, they will freely leave the jail.

Cook County Commissioner Joan Murphy Thursday went as far as to say she “misspoke” when she earlier declared that only those locked up on misdemeanors would be impacted.

“It’s a misdemeanor — it’s nothing, this is the people that we’re talking about that are going to be released, not anyone that has a felony,” Murphy said during Wednesday’s meeting.

“That’s not what I meant,” Murphy said Thursday. “The point is that the majority are being held for misdemeanors.”

When asked at Wednesday’s meeting by Commissioner William Beavers, a South Side Democrat, about whether “dangerous criminals” might be released, the sheriff’s legal counsel Peter Kramer said: “In theory, yes.”

Cook County will not detain some illegal immigrants sought by feds

The Cook County Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance that would allow illegal immigrants in jail on misdemeanor charges to go free despite federal requests to have them detained for possible deportation.
"It's important to recognize that this is about improving public safety, it's about serving our taxpayers better and it's about keeping families together," said county board president Toni Preckwinkle, who did not vote on the ordinance that passed 10 to 5, but helped push it behind the scenes.

2 illegal aliens charged with armed robbery of Little Village health food store

Benajmin Marrero, 29, of the 2600 block of West Cermak Road, and David Lopez, 31, of the 2800 block of the same street, were each charged with one count of armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
Police said that shortly after obtaining a detailed description of the robbery suspects from the 47-year-old  store owner whose hands and feet they had tied with duct tape, they found them near an ATM machine where they had withdrawn cash from the store owner's account.
Marrero and Lopez entered the store in the 3100 bock of West 26th Street shortly before noon Monday and asked for a particular brand of hand cream. The owner recalled Marrero visiting the store last week, requesting the same product.
The owner began walking toward the rear stock room when Marrero grabbed her while brandishing a screwdriver and announced a holdup. After tying her up with duct tape, they rummaged through her purse, taking a cell phone, car keys and a bank card, they said. They then forced open the cash register and fled in the store owner's car.

2 illegal aliens charged in Little Village strangulation

Two men were charged this morning with the strangulation of a Mount Greenwood neighborhood man found in the city's Little Village neighborhood.
The dead man, Christopher Pinkins, was discovered in the 3000 block of South Pulaski Road at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after Chicago police received a call of a person with a knife in the area.
Charged with first-degree murder were Osmar Alejo, 25, of the 3000 block of South Tripp Avenue, and Santiago Garcia, 46, of the 3000 block of South Harding Avenue.

Illegal alien charged with DUI in fatal Pilsen hit-and-run of bicyclist

A 38-year-old illegal alien has been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI in a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in the Pilsen neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
Ignacio Ramirez was also charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
At about 12:50 a.m., police said Ramirez struck a 30-year-old bicyclist near the intersection of 18th and Carpenter streets before fleeing the scene.
The bicyclist, identified by authorities as Fredrick Kobrick, of the 1700 block of South Desplaines Street, was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Ramirez, of the 500 block of West Walton Street, was taken into custody a short distance from the crash site. Police didn't provide his blood-alcohol level.

Illegal aliens charged in series of robberies

A parolee and a female companion are accused of committing four robberies and could be connected to several others across the city.
Isidro Torres, 34, of the 2700 block of West Harrison Street, and Yuliana Trigueros, 21, of the 4400 block of West 77th Place, were charged today with four counts of robbery, all of which happened within the past week.
Torres is currently on parole for armed robbery and robbery convictions, according to court records. The two would prey on female victims, approaching them and snatching necklaces off their necks. Typically, Trigueros would drive the getaway car while Torres would jump out, steal the jewelry and hop back in the car.
The necklaces would be sold at pawn shops for about $100 a piece, but some of them have since been recovered by police.

On Monday, police saw a vehicle that had been identified as having been used in a robbery that happened earlier that day in the 2800 block of South Avers Avenue. Police said they stopped the gold Nissan Maxima while Trigueros was parking it near her home. Harrison Area detectives and officers from the Ogden and Monroe Districts arrested Trigueros at her home about 12:30 p.m. Monday, and Torres was apprehended about six hours later on the West Side.

Cops seize cannabis worth an estimated $33 million arrest 7 illegal aliens

Chicago police arrested seven men and seized more than 12,000 pounds of cannabis worth an estimated $33 million in an anti-drug operation Monday.
A Chicago Police Narcotics Unit, acting on reports that a drug trafficking organization linked to several street gangs had large distribution and storage centers in the city, began looking at a warehouse in the 1000 block of South Kolmar Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
Monday, officers stopped a van leaving the warehouse grounds and found 2,500 pounds of cannabis inside. A subsequent search of the warehouse found 9,800 pounds of cannabis. Seven vehicles, a rifle and handgun were also seized.
Arrested were Salvador Lopez, 28, of California; Jesus Munoz, 20, of Woodville, Calif.; Ruben Salazar, 37, of the 2700 block of North Artesian Avenue in Chicago; Sotero Salazar, 43, of the 6200 block of West Cuyler Avenue in Chicago; Manuel Sanchez, 37, no address; Calderon Sandoval, 25, of Grandview, Wash.; and Daniel Saucedo, 36, of the 5900 block of South Austin Avenue in Chicago.
All were charged with cannabis possession; Manuel Sanchez was also charged with cannabis trafficking.

Illegal alien Inmate, girlfriend, guard charged with smuggling pot into jail

A Cook County Jail inmate who is awaiting trial in the brutal beating of two women with a baseball bat during a robbery in Bucktown last year has been charged with smuggling marijuana into the jail, prosecutors said today.
Prosecutors charged that Heriberto Viramontes arranged to have his girlfriend, Kira Lundgren, bring in a package of marijuana during visiting hours on June 11. Lundgren was arrested on her way out of the jail and the package was discovered during a search of Viramontes’ cell.
Also arrested on June 11 and charged was a jail guard accused of letting Lundgren smuggle contraband into the jail, Jerome Prusa, 50, of Westchester, according to the Cook County sheriff's police.
On June 11, Lundgren hid a small amount of marijuana in her shoe and went to Division 10 of the jail to visit Viramontes, according to a sheriff's statement. Once in the visiting room, she took the marijuana out and taped it to the underside of a table.
An undercover officer investigating smuggling into the jail division then came to the same visiting room and was approached by Prusa, who pointed the officer to the marijuana Lundgren had allegedly left and asked if it could be given to Viramontes at the same time.
Prusa then let the undercover officer into a secure area of the jail with the contraband and then back into the visiting room, according to the sheriff's statement.
Both Lundgren and Prusa were immediately arrested. The drugs were later found in Viramontes' cell when guards tossed it, the statement said. Police found two knives in Prusa's uniform when he was taken into custody.
He has been de-deputized and suspended pending an employment hearing and has resigned his position as an auxiliary officer for the LaGrange Park Police Department, the statement said.
Viramontes, 32, and Lundgren, 22, each were charged with one count of bringing contraband into a penal institution. She is free on a $10,000 bond, records show.
Prusa, who is free on a $40,000 bond, has been charged with four counts of official misconduct, two counts of possession of a weapon in a penal institution, one count of bringing a weapon into a penal institution and one count of bringing contraband into a penal institution.
According to records Prusa has been with the sheriff's department since July 2005.
Viramontes and his former girlfriend, Marcy Cruz, 26, are awaiting trial on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful restraint. Authorities allege that Viramontes struck Stacy Jurich, 24, and Natasha McShane, 23, with a baseball bat as they walked home in the Bucktown neighborhood on April 23, 2010. Cruz allegedly waited in a vehicle and drove Viramontes from the scene, authorities said.
McShane, a native of Northern Ireland, bore the brunt of the beating, sustaining head injuries that have left her unable to walk, speak or dress herself, the Tribune reported earlier this year.

Cops: Palatine illegal alien sexually assaulted girl, 12

A Palatine man was being held in lieu of $300,000 bail after he was charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he had met at a school bus stop, police said today.

Jorge Horijuela, 25, of the 1500 block of North Norway Lane, was charged June 24 with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, Cook County sheriff's police said today in a statement.
Police started investigating Horijuela after the girl's mother complained of harassing phone calls in late May, the statement said.
When an officer went to the girl's home, he noticed bruising on her neck. The girl told him the bruises were "hickeys" given by Horijuela. Police initially arrested Horijuela and charged him with battery and telephone harassment, officials said.
Soon after, the girl told a school social worker that Horijuela sexually assaulted her.
Horijuela met the girl because her school bus drops her off in front of his house, police said. He befriended her and asked for her phone number. Police said he called her late at night and, after gaining her confidence, convinced her to meet him in the a stairwell of his apartment building when her parents were asleep.
Between April and late May, the meetings became increasingly sexual and Horijuela began sexually assaulting the girl, police said.
He was arrested June 24 and charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, police said.
Police are investigating whether Horijuela had more victims and said he uses several aliases including Jose Rodriguez, Jorge Origuela and Roberto Rodriguez.

13 drunken illegal aliens charged in fight that injured police officers and here are some of their mugshots in black and blue

Thirteen people arrested after Chicago police officers were injured breaking up a large fight in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side this weekend have been charged in connection with the melee, police said.

Nine of the people face felony aggravated battery of a police officer charges, and the other four face misdemeanor charges, including assault of a police officer and disorderly conduct. Bonds set for the people ranged from $3,000 to $175,000.

Those facing charges range in age from 18 to 36. Most are from the West Side, but their hometowns also include Bridgeview and Romeoville.
According to prosecutors and arrest reports, police were responding to a call of loud music coming from a home in the 2800 block of West 25th Street.
When they arrived on the scene, they encountered an “ongoing gang disturbance” outside the home where a party was taking place. When the officers tried to disperse the partygoers, the crowd became hostile and began throwing beer bottles, beer cans, and other objects at the police.
Several officers suffered injuries after being struck by cans and bottles.
The officers injured were all treated and released, police said; the most seriously injured had been hit over the head with a bottle.

Police initially were called for a complaint about loud music, followed quickly by another report about a fight, police said.

Officers from the Ogden and Harrison police districts were among those who responded to the fight, which happened on the border between the two districts.

Those facing felony charges were: Santiago Torres, 29, of the 2500 block of South St. Louis Avenue; Michael Torres, 23, also of the 2500 block of South St.; Lino Perez, 26, of  the 700 block of South Belmont St. in Romeoville; Magalis Davile, 29, of the 6200 block of South Parkside Avenue; Lino Ruiz, 25, of the 2800 block of West 25th Street; Alejandro Rabago, 22, of the 5100 block of South Kildare Avenue; Jose Garcia, 18, of the 2300 block of South Trumbull Street; Roberto Tejada, 36, of the 1900 block of West 17th Street; and Emilio Izaguirre, 30, of the 1700 block of West 21st Place.
In addition to all the bottle-throwing, Santiago Torres was accused of hitting an officer with a shovel. Michael Torres was accused of hitting an officer with a wooden chair.

According to prosecutors, Manuel Torres told an officer “take off that gun and badge and I’ll [expletive] you up.”

Some of the last words Adelina Najera spoke to her 16-year-old son Freddy were warnings that he shouldn't stay out late with friends.

Just hours later, however, Freddy Najera was one of three teens killed in a Prospect Heights crash that ripped the car in two. A fourth passenger in the car – an 18-year-old man – was hospitalized and is expected to survive, according to police.
As her niece translated from Spanish. Adelina Najera said today that she asked Freddy around 10:30 p.m. not to leave their apartment with his friend, who was over for the night. But after she went to sleep, the teens did leave the apartment and were picked up by the two girls who were also involved in the crash, she said.

Adelina Najera clutched a tissue and cried as her family gathered in the Mount Prospect apartment, mourning the loss of Freddy, the Najera's only child.

Family described Freddy, who had dropped out of school, as a kind, easy-going teenager. Friends and neighbors also rallied to support the Najera family and the families of the two teenage girls, who both live in Arlington Heights. A collection of more than $700 was divided among the families to help with funeral costs, according to neighbors.

Najera said she was grateful for the support but only wished it could bring her son back.

The two others who died in the crash were Elizabeth Solis, 15, ofPark Ridge and Jessica Ferrer, 15, of Arlington Heights, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Jessica's brother, 19-year-old Danny Ferrera, said his sister and Elizabeth were best friends. Ferrera said his sister, the second of five children, loved to swim and was "a good person." He said she was a student at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.

"She liked to make people laugh," he said.

Police said a 2002 Honda Accord that was later reported stolen was speeding east on East Camp McDonald Road, near Elmhurst Road, at 3:10 a.m. Saturday when it jumped a curb and hit two trees, splitting the car and leaving wreckage strewn across the front yards of two homes.

Three of the four teenagers were violently tossed from the car, police said. A male and a female who were found outside the car died at the scene, as did a female who was found in the vehicle. The surviving teen was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

All three victims died from multiply injuries, the medical examiner's office found. No charges have been filed

Startling results from an ongoing investigation reveal that the City of Chicago uses non-citizens to supervise and operate some of Chicago’s early voting polling places. Investigations uncovered at least 6 non-citizens supervising or working at early voting sites. Investigators also found that 65 different employees, or 1 out of 4 workers at early voting sites, administrated elections without declaring their eligibility to work on federal I-9 forms. (The I-9 is the mandated Federal Employee Eligibility Verification form.) These workers have the authority of an election judge at the early voting polls.

Early voting at three elections was investigated: February and November 2010, and February 2011. The majority of the employees working at the polling places served in all three elections
