A 16-year-old boy died this morning after he shot himself in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side, and authorities said it appears to be accidental.
The victim suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue this morning and was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
While an official determination awaits an autopsy and investigation, authorities said preliminary information points to the shooting being accidental.
The boy’s identity was not being released immediately, pending notification of family members.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics were sent to the Kingston avenue address about 10 a.m. for a gunshot victim. The victim was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to determine the cause and manner of the 16-year-old’s death.
