A Markham man previously convicted of sex assault has been charged with trying to
rob three women at a salon, then holding a woman hostage and Friday night in a
South Side salon.
Byron K. Moore, 49, faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, sexual abuse,
attempted sex assault, unlawful restraint and attempted robbery in the attacks
that started about 6:45 p.m. Friday in the 3100 block of South Archer Avenue.
The incident began about 7:25 p.m. when the man went into the salon on the
3100 block of South Archer Avenue in the McKinley Park neighborhood.
After the man went into the salon, he complained that he was owed money,
tried to rob the three women and took the 40-year-old woman hostage. Moore held the woman in a back room and sexually abused her.
Police were called to the scene and eventually forced their way inside the
business.
The man had tried to sexually assault the woman, who was taken to an area
hospital for observation.
Moore, of the 16200 block of South Laflin Avenue in Markham, is a registered
sex offender. He pleaded guilty in a 1997 home
invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault case and was sentenced to 25
years in prison, according to court records.
