Officers wound armed robber in Grand Crossing
Officers wounded a gunman this morning in the 7400 block of South Wabash Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood.
The police were called to the vicinity of the 7400 block of State Street at about 3:15 a.m. after receiving a report about "a suspicious person wearing a ski mask,".
Responding officers saw a man in a mask committing an armed robbery with a handgun. They left their vehicle, announced themselves as police officers, and told the man to drop the weapon. The man did not and fired at the officers, who returned fire as the man ran away.
Another set of officers intercepted the fleeing man at 74th and State Street, according to the release, and there was an exchange of gunfire there as well before the man again fled, this time through back yards in the 7400 block of Wabash.
The man was found hiding on the front porch of a home on Wabash, where he was stunned by a Taser after resisting arrest and was then taken into custody and transported to a hospital. The man had several gunshot wounds, the release said, and a weapon, a ski mask, and a hooded sweatshirt were recovered at the scene.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was undergoing surgery this morning
