Police issued a community alert today warning of robberies and burglaries in
the city's West Side.
A series of robberies were reported on May 28 in the areas of 1700 to 1900
blocks of West Ogden Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m..
In those incidents the robbers approached the victims and struck them in the
head and body with their hands and feet.
The suspects were described by the police as two to four males blacks between the
ages of 18 to 25.
Police also said several burglaries have happened in the Near West Side
neighborhood.
The burglaries have occurred between May 20 and May 28 on the 100 block of
North Wood Street; the 1700 block of West Maypole Avenue; the 2200 block of West
Taylor Street and the 2300 block of West Ogden Avenue.
The burglaries have happened between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
when the victims were not at home.
In some incidents, the burglars cut or made openings in gates to enter vacant
buildings to steal wiring, fixtures, tools and equipment.
