A 56-year-old man who was installing a fence late this afternoon was wounded
in an attempted robbery on the far South Side in the city's Washington Heights
neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 4:42 p.m. on the 10500 block of South May Street.
Preliminary reports stated the man was installing a fence at a single-family
home when two men approached him and one shot him in the buttocks. The gunman then put the handgun to the
man's head and demanded money.
A 50-year-old man, who was working with the victim saw the shooting and
approached the two robbers with a hammer. The robbers took off
and got into a getaway vehicle where another man waiting. All three fled the
scene.
The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his
condition has stabilized
