District officers catch 3 suspected in Northwest, West Side cell store robberies

Three men have been charged in a series of cell phone store robberies in recent weeks on the Northwest and West sides after a police sergeant and several officers corned the men in their getaway car.
Antwan Palmer, 25, Carnell Treadwell, 21, and Ryan Glass, 20, all face armed robbery charges in connection with the robberies that police said date back at least to May 16.
The three appeared in Cook County Central Bond Court on Saturday, where Palmer and Treadwell, who each are charged in 10 robberies, were ordered held in lieu of $350,000 bail, and Glass, who is charged in five robberies, was ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bail, according to police and court records.
Several of the robberies took place in pairs within less than an hour of each other, most of them in the late afternoon, police said. Area North detectives sent out a business alert June 2, warning businesses that two or three men were targeting cell phone stores and using a grey or silver Nissan.
The robbers, two or three together, had been holding up businesses at gunpoint, using a handgun and a shotgun. Most of the stores involved were cellular telephone shops, but in one case, the robbers hit a Game Stop.
A sergeant and officers from the Grand Central District stopped a car matching that description at 4400 W. North Avenue about 11:25 a.m. on Thursday.
When police stopped the car, Palmer, of the 5900 block of W. Adams had a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, and he and the other two men were arrested. Police also found clothing in the car that might have been used in the robberies.
Police were able to identify the three as suspects in the cell phone store robberies, and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office approved charges against them.
In the original alert, police said the suspects were wanted in the following robberies:
--On May 16 in the 5300 block of West Division Street at 4:30 p.m.
--On May 16 in the 1500 block of North Cicero Avenue at 5:10 p.m.
--On May 29 in the 4400 block of North Pulaski Road at 4:25 p.m.
--On May 29 in the 3600 block of West Irving Park Road at 4:35 p.m.
--On June 1 in the 5300 block of West Diversey Avenue at 3:30 p.m.
--On June 1 in the 2800 block of North Laramie Avenue at 4:00 p.m.
--On June 2 in the 3955 block of West Belmont Avenue at 4:30 p.m.
Police suspect that in addition to the seven robberies listed in the alert, the three may also have been involved in robberies June 5 at businesses in the 3700 block of North Elston Avenue, about 3:20 p.m., and in the 3600 block of West Fullerton Avenue, about 4 p.m
