A 16-year-old boy is accused of snatching an iPhone
as a woman held it in her mouth while searching her purse for a cigarette.
The boy had approached the woman in her early 20s around 7:30
p.m. Monday in the 200 block of North State Street and asked her if she had a
cigarette.
She said she did and placed her iPhone in her
mouth so she could use both hands to search her purse, police said. The teen
then shoved her in the face and grabbed the iPhone, then ran south on State
Street and east on Randolph Street.
Responding officers saw
the woman and a witness chasing the boy south on Garland Court and were able to
catch him and recover the phone, which the woman said was worth $800. The teen
was charged as a juvenile with robbery.
