A Stroger
Hospital worker who killed himself after attacking a co-worker and
ex-girlfriend had tried unsuccessfully earlier in the day to reconcile with her.
Ramon Washington, 38 and the woman he attacked had been in a
relationship, but the woman had broken up with him about a month ago. On Monday,
Washington had made several unsuccessful attempts to talk to her.
Around 2:25 p.m. Monday, Washington followed the woman into a
hallway and hit her in the head, knees and hands with a hammer.
He then pulled out a box cutter and told the woman, "My
friend told me I should have ended this whole thing,".
Washington began stabbing the woman until co-workers grabbed the woman and
dragged her to a locker room.
Washington fled the
scene as hospital police locked down the building. Around 4 p.m., another
co-worker went into a walk-in cooler and found Washington in a pool of blood, a
knife lying by his wide and his throat slit.
The Cook
County medical examiner's office said Washington, of the 10800 block of South
Calumet Avenue, died of multiple stab wounds and ruled his death a suicide.
