A 27-year-old man was fatally struck this morning by an outbound CTA Red Line train in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
The man was reported struck by a southbound train on a set of elevated tracks at about 1:20 a.m. just north of the Loyola station in the 1300 block of West Columbia Avenue.
The spot where the person was struck was on an embankment where pedestrians don't walk.
The male was taken to nearby St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there.
The train's operator was also taken to the hospital, but related to the mental stress of the accident.
While the operator told authorities he spotted the dead man sitting on the railroad tracks before the collision, police weren't calling the death a suicide.
