Two adults and two children were injured when their car crashed while being chased by Chicago police in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
Officers tried to pull the car over near 87th and Wood streets around 11 p.m. Monday, officials said, citing preliminary reports. The officers had been watching the car after receiving a tip there may have been drugs inside.
A woman behind the wheel refused to stop and the officers began chasing the car as its occupants tossed drugs out the windows.
After going about six blocks, the woman lost control over railroad tracks on South Ashland Avenue and 89th Street and the car became airborne and smashed into a light pole.
The driver, 22, was unresponsive at the scene but was revived and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
A man and a child were also taken to Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition.
Another child was taken to Comer's Children Hospital at the University of Chicago, also in serious-to-critical condition
