A man and woman have been charged in connection with the robbery of two DePaul University students at gunpoint near their dorm in the Lincoln Park neighborhood last week.
Anthony Barnes, 31, and Regina Cartharn, 45, are charged with robbery in the case. Barnes, of the 200 block of East 69th Place, was being held in Cook County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail and Cartharn, of the 300 block of East 55th Place, was being held on $100,000 bail.
The women, both 19, were walking in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue when someone with a gun approached and grabbed their purses early Thursday. The robber then jumped into a waiting car and sped off.
The car was soon spotted by patrol officers heading east on Willow Street and approaching Larrabee Street, police said. Police pulled it over in the 1500 block North Larrabee Street and detained a 45-year-woman behind the wheel and a passenger.
Inside the car, the officers found the stolen purses, a “replica” gun and a loaded revolver, police said. The students identified the suspects.
