A woman driving with her mother and 2-year-old nephew was shot in the face when someone fired at a man on the street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood early today.
The shooting in the 100 block of North Kedzie Avenue happened just before 2 a.m..
A 24-year-old man got into an argument with someone he knew at a food and liquor store in the 100 block of North Kedzie. The second man left after the dispute, and the victim left a few minutes later.
Soon after, someone fired shots from a nearby parking lot, injuring the 24-year-old in the foot.
One of the bullets passed through the front windshield of a woman, age 20, who was driving north on Kedzie from Lake Street, striking her in the upper lip and lodging in her nasal passage.
The woman’s mother was driving with her and was able to take over the wheel and drive her to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was being treated, Mirabelli said. A 2-year-old nephew of the younger woman who was in the back seat of the car was unharmed.
Police are searching for the shooter in the attack, which was captured on surveillance video. Harrison Area detectives were investigating whether the original dispute inside the liquor store was tied to the shooting
