The crash happened this morning just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of 79th Street and Wentworth Avenue several blocks west of the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The women were riding inside a car near the intersection when the vehicle struck a snow plow owned by the Chicago Transit Authority.
The collision sent the car spinning into a light pole.
The victims, whose ages weren't available, were both taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, though a police spokesman said the women's conditions had stabilized.
There were no report of any other injuries.
It was unclear whether snow or the sub-freezing temperatures played a role in the crash
