Ryan R. Sahlin, 29, of the 2000 block of West Iowa Street was ordered held Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bail in a hearing in Cook County Central Bond Court, according to court records
Officers arrested Sahlin in the 800 block of North Damen Avenue, after other officers apparently alerted them to Sahlin defacing property near the intersection of Damen and Grand avenues about 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
One witness said the graffiti largely consisted of a signature tag, a cartoon version of the letters “DelvR.”
Sahlin had been seen writing on doors and other parts of buildings, as well as area bus shelters, with a black paint marker, Zala said.
Sahlin was charged with two felony counts of defacement of property and nine misdemeanor counts of defacement, in connection with graffiti on 11 buildings or other property, Zala said.
Among the locations involved were buildings mostly near the intersection of Damen and Grand, including buildings in the 700 and 600 blocks of North Damen Avenue, the 1900 block of West Huron Street and the 1900 block of West Ohio Street, Zala said.
Cook County Jail online information did not indicate that Sahlin was an inmate there, but court records do not indicate whether he has been released on bail.
He is scheduled to appear again in court on June 14 at 9 a.m. in Branch 1 of Cook County Criminal Court
