Police and child welfare officials were investigating the death today of a 10-month-old after his father said he found the boy unresponsive in a bathtub at the family’s West Humboldt Park home Wednesday, authorities said.
Anthony Jones, of the 4200 block of West Walton Street, was declared dead at 8:05 a.m. at Children’s Memorial Hospital this morning after being found floating in a bathtub at his home, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Emergency crews were called to the home about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday when the boy’s father called 911 to report he found the boy unresponsive as the boy was taking a bath, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. Harrison Area detectives were conducting a death investigation, but were still conducting interviews and awaiting an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
Department of Children and Family Services spokesman Kendall Marlowe said that the department is investigating allegations of neglect in the child’s death. He also said that the family has not been the subject of any previous investigation and that the three other children in the household were placed in the care of a relative.
