A 17-year-old boy was charged as an adult with murder in a Northwest Side shooting that left one man dead and another critically wounded last week, police announced tonight.
Abel Lopez was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for the shooting on Thursday in the parking lot of a laundromat on the 3000 block of North California Avenue, police said.
Lopez, of the 3100 block of North Elston Avenue, approached two victims as they were seated in a vehicle at about 1:45 p.m., produced a handgun, and began firing, according to police.
Both victims -- a 22-year-old man shot in the head and a 21-year-old man shot in the chest -- were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
The younger victim, identified as Jesus Gamboa of the 2900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, was later pronounced dead there, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Grand Central Area detectives developed leads that pointed to Lopez as the gunman and took him into custody, police said.
Police believe the shooting was gang-related, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Anne Dwyer said
