A man was critically wounded this evening after suffering at least two gunshot wounds to the head not far from Washington Park on the South Side, police said.
Police were contacted by officials at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center around 7:30 p.m. after the shooting victim arrived with the wounds to his head, police said.
Authorities believe the victim was shot near 55th Street and King Drive, but were still trying to determine the circumstances, police spokesman Officer VeeJay Zala said.
The man was listed in very critical condition at the hospital, Zala said. It was unclear whether hospital officials planned to transfer the victim to a Level I trauma center late Saturday.
