A male was shot by police late Friday in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
About 10:45 p.m., officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when they saw three males walking away from the area, according to a release from police News Affairs.
The officers saw one of the three males try and flee and a foot chase ensued. When the male reached the alley between Cottage Grove and Maryland Avenue, police saw him draw a weapon from his clothes.
In response, an officer fired and struck the male in the leg, the release said.
The male was taken into custody and transported to a hospital. His age and condition were not immediately known.
No officers were injured and a weapon was recovered from the scene, police said.
The Independent Police Review Authority, which looks into all police-involved shootings, is investigating.
