Man held in shootings is suspect in homicides

A 19-year-old Elgin man charged with shooting and badly wounding two men is also a suspect in two recent homicides on Chicago’s South Side, authorities said today.

Dwayne Timberlake was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bond Saturday in the shootings of a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of Chicago. He is charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a gun.

But detectives also are investigating him in connection with the killings of a 22-year-old man in April in Englewood and a 24-year-old woman in February in South Shore, according to an arrest report.

Police suspect that Timberlake shot Princess Streeter several times as she walked in the 2600 block of East 75th Street about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4, the report said. Streeter of the 3700 block of South Wabash Avenue was pronounced dead less than three hours later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Timberlake is also suspected of shooting Khristopher Daniels as he sat in a car at a traffic light just before 7 p.m. April 10 in the 7400 block of South Vincennes Avenue, according to police.

Police said occupants of the car in front of Daniels’ got out and shot into his car. Daniels threw his car into reverse, but he slammed into the vehicle behind his, police said. With Daniels’ car trapped, the gunmen continued to fire, hitting Daniels several times, police said. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Investigators also suspect Timberlake drove a car as a passenger shot and seriously injured a 23–year-old man in the first block of East 37th Place in the Bronzeville neighborhood, the report said.

Timberlake of the 1100 block of South Yew Court in Elgin surrendered himself to police Thursday, according to court records.

Prosecutors gave few details on the non-fatal shootings, and Chicago police declined to give further information.

Only the aggravated battery charges were addressed in court Saturday, and Timberlake’s attorney, John Miraglia, said his client “denies all wrongdoing” in those shootings.
