A South Side man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after admitting he sexually assaulted three women in 2008.
John Hopkins, 36, of the 5200 block of Hyde Park, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault. Prosecutors say he will not be eligible for parole until he is 75.
One of the attacks happened on Oct. 8, 2008 when Hopkins followed a woman to her South Side apartment as she was coming home from work, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office. He dragged her into an alley and assaulted her and stole her CTA transit card and other belongings, prosecutors said.
A few weeks later, Hopkins followed another woman off a CTA bus and forced her into the back yard of a house and assaulted her. Surveillance video showed Hopkins riding the bus with the woman and following her, prosecutors said.
Police were able to identify Hopkins and arrest him. Authorities said DNA evidence linked him to both attacks.
While in jail, Hopkins allegedly tried to recruit someone to kill the two woman, along with a third woman he had assaulted. DNA from that attack implicated Hopkins, prosecutors said.
