A jury convict a woman with a reported history of mental illness in his 2008 slaying.
Jurors deliberated for about five hours before finding Robin Johnson, 50,
guilty of first-degree murder. That carries an automatic life sentence, along
with aggravated discharge of a firearm toward another police officer.
Prosecutors had called for a quick conviction while arguing that Johnson
became angry and aggressive after another woman got in her way on a CTA bus,
then snatched a gun from Francis and shot him once in the head, killing him
Johnson then opened fire on responding officers and went on to shoot Francis
two more times as he lay motionless on the ground, about a block from what was
then the Belmont District station
