One person is in custody after a teen was shot near an elementary school in
the Little Village neighborhood this morning.
The shooting happened at about 8:35 a.m. in the 2100 block of South
California Avenue.
The victim, believed to be a female around 18, was shot in the upper thigh
and hip area and was taken to a hospital where her condition was stabilized.
After the shooting, three people were seen running east in an alley. One person of interest was taken into custody and was being
questioned.
The shooting happened near the Hammond Elementary School, 2819 W. 21st Place.
It is also several blocks from another elementary school, the Saucedo Scholastic
Academy, 2850 W. 24th Blvd.
